On the fence. Yes pre-Hurst. Not so sure now. Sunderland fans got frustrated with his football but he had them challenging and in cups which is an improvement. Always seems to go sour too prematurely for him though, why is this? |

I think Sunderland get a few more at their games, have won more leagues, more cups, were in the Premier League more recently and have had a few more Netflix shows made about them. Other than that we’re level. |
Don't agree with you Backinbeige. Sunderland haven't won the top league since the war and have only won the FA cup in 1973. I think you'll find we've done better than that. |  | | |

Follow Scottish football a bit, pretty extraordinary decision on the face of it - they're in the League cup final against Celtic next weekend, having beaten Rangers 3-1 in the semi-final two weeks ago and finished 3rd last season, so basically winning the league amongst the clubs they can be expected to compete with. Also no threat of relegation, so pretty awful not to let him lead them out for the cup final.
Knocked out of Europe tamely though and fans say the tactics substitutions etc. this season have been baffling, and obviously this is off the back of a really bad run this season. Definitely a competent manager though.

His not doing it at Sunderland was something like finishing 4th with 85 points, losing in JPT and PO Final and only losing about 6 games all season.
What we'd give for that level of failure! |
Criticism at Sunderland was defensive first football, too many draws and not pushing for wins when a bolder manager might have done.
