Whisper it… we may have FINALLY found the TECHNICAL manager we have needed sin 20:57 - Jan 8 with 4029 viewsunstableblue

… 2009!

I suppose it’s better late than never

Technical and tactical drills translating from the training ground onto the pitch

I am very impressed so far

But let’s be clear Gillingham were woeful today, and there were some disconnects in our front 5. But the latter bodes well as if we can improve on that we could become very potent.

Edmundson, Burns and Morsy were top of the Championship class today, and we haven’t be able to say that about Town players for a while.

Bolton will be a tougher test, but a chance for revenge after a terrible display at home earlier in the season.

I still think we may see a different 11 starting in a months time, with the likes of Celina, Chaplin, Piggot, Coulson and KVY maybe pushing.

My favourite comment from McKenna, amongst the many insights to the game and style, was that the 11 who start are representing the 22 who trained the week before - classy.

Outside his first 4 games? It took him a couple and then he scored 4 in 3 I think it was before being dropped for celina. Chaplin has 5 goals in 10 appearances. Not to shabby.

Either way really. It's a bit different to comparing judge with sears isn't it lol.

Not sure why you are picking those 10 games, overall for the season he has a slightly better goals per 90 than Celina (0.48 vs 0.41 although that includes a penalty for Chaplin) and a far worse chances created (0.45 vs 1.21).

I guess it's simply a personal view in that I feel Celina offers more than Chaplin, I might be proven wrong but I'm not sold on Chaplin. I don't think either will be ahead of Aluko at the moment but we need to have the options.

As you say, it's a nice choice to have.

"Comparing Judge with Sears" already seems about 2 light years ago, happily

Agreed. I’m struggling to see where Celina fits. We now look a more hard-working team who work hard off the ball. I think Celina might unsettle that as he’s an x-factor player who has moments of magic, but then drifts out of the game. I can only see him being used off the bench to chase a game. And I’d want Chaplin to be ahead of Celina in the pecking order as he’ll give more to the team. I want to see us being a functioning eleven instead of having to rely on the odd piece of Celina magic.

I suspect the formation of the front 3 might be quite flexible depending on who's available/in-form and weaknesses in the opposition etc.

Against Wycombe Aluko was pretty much on the right of the midfield 3 to start with so we were closer to 3-5-2, then in the second-half of that game we had a spell with Norwood left, Aluko right and Bonne through the middle, so a 3-4-3. Then yesterday it was a pretty clear 3-4-1-2, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it tweaked from time-to-time to fit more than one of the "no 10s".

Sorry SB. Wiki has chaplin as 5 goals in 10 total appearances, wasnt selecting a specific 10.

Fair enough - I was looking at the BBC which is over the entire season thus far and has him on 18 matches.

Funnily enough just checked the twtd stats that has him down for 25 appearances. Blimey, hasn't seemed that much.

( player ratings stats) unless you can rate a player who doesn't come on?
