Not as bloated, a core group of players, and should try and maintain them levels of numbers in the squad.

Squad now. Trimmed down nicely on 09:13 - Feb 1 by clive_baker | Once the loans are taken out of the equatiion there's only a handful to make decisions on in the summer really. Norwood, Aluko. Kenlock, Holy, Carroll and Jackson are out of contract so I wouldn't be surprised of 4 or 5 of that group go. It's only really Aluko and Norwood that might get another year. Contracted players it's really Hladky, Burgess and Pigott most likely to move on I would say, unless we got offered decent money for someone. |
I personally feel all loans will go back, and not return. Bakinson, Thompson, Bonne, Celina. There will be exits from expiring contracts. Norwood, Carroll, Holy, Jackson, Kenlock There could be 10 out of the door this summer - but should only need around 5 in - will be a slight tweak of the squad, but not a major overhaul - good for consistency and stability. Yep, wouldn't surprise me, although Toto has already gone. I think Norwood might get another year personally, perhaps Aluko too but a lot depends on what happens in the next 17 games and in Norwood's case probably also depends on any decisions made on Pigott, as we'll be left without any recognised forwards if they all go. Don't think Hladky and Burgess in particular have a future here and I don't imagine either would want to be bench warmers at their ages. 6 - 8 or so in during the summer I think, half of which will be on loan.

Edited - forget Toto went permanently. I think Norwood is on a decent chunk of change - and with him heading for 32 y.o, it seems the right time to cut ties and look elsewhere for a leading striker. I can certainly see Aluko warranting another deal - I can’t see it being an expensive one, and he’s a very good squad player at this level. I’ve said before I don’t mind Burgess as an understudy, I don’t see any major issues with him, but whether the likes of him, Hladky and Pigott will want guarantee regular minutes elsewhere next year remains to be seen.

Squad now. Trimmed down nicely on 08:47 - Feb 1 by itfcjoe | I don't think we can class Idris as youth though, especially in League 1. He's a full international with 50 senior games under his belt and is 21 - we went to Wimbledon last week and they have teenagers with a couple of sub appearances under their belt |
But he's not ready to step up to games of that magnitude when partnered with someone equally as inexperienced though. He's still a prospect in my view, backup yes but a prospect. I really rate him and think he'll have a good career if he's played in the right games with the right support around him. Saturday was a case of needs must though, which isn't great for him.

Squad now. Trimmed down nicely on 08:43 - Feb 1 by tractorboy1978 | It's laughable that people expect a L1 side to have an equally capable back up for a solid Championship player on over £10k a week just sitting on the bench for emergencies. |
Not equally capable but the right skill set and experience to get the balance and blend in the side right is a must.

How do you ever improve these players if you aren't willing to trust them/play them though? It's a bit of a chicken and egg situation really. He's the closest thing we've got to Morsy and a more than capable deputy when needed. He played really well in the home game vs Sheff Wed. If we are in the realms of needing him to be back up to the back up then he might as well not be here. People were chomping at the bit for us to sign Matete yesterday, a player with about as many games under his belt as Idris.
