Lampard on 09:47 - Mar 8 by Churchman | Ok, Fair enough, 6-1 according to a Derby report of the time. My Chelsea supporting mate and his son were pleased with the appointment, accepted the first season and wanted him out by the time Tuchel came in. A sample of 2 Chelsea fans. I reckon that’s a sufficient poll size to support my view. [Post edited 8 Mar 2022 10:13]

That's just Chelsea as a club though isn't it - he came in at a tough time, losing Hazard and not being able to replace him at all - kept them in CL, got to FA Cup Final, brought through £200m worth of talent and then struggled a bit the next season. Chelsea don't have the patience to wait for managers to work things out, but then they win trophies so it works for them - but whether some fans wanted him out or not (and the matchgoing ones I know didn't FWIW) doesn't alter the fact that he picked them up at an awkward time and moved them forwards before falling short. I think it's a good enough job done to justify getting the Everton one, they are in a massive rut though

Interestingly both Simon Jordan and Leanne Richardson both questioned his pedigree in getting the job. Essentially the consensus was he hasn't done enough in his career to date to warrant the Everton gig. Which is the question I posed in my OP.

I think Lampard to Everton looked a bad fit for both him & the club at the time. Do you want a relatively inexperienced manager in a relegation battle? While his first season at Chelsea was OK, his second was bad, not helped by his poor summer signings. Still "not proven" as a manager, but if Everton goes badly wrong, he'll struggle to get more than a poor Championship club.

Lampard on 11:21 - Mar 8 by C_HealyIsAPleasure | Derby had cut back on spending so much that they signed Waghorn, Marriott and Jozefzoon for sizeable fees, Ashley Cole on no doubt extortionate wages not to mention the loanees who won’t have come cheap |
I don't think Derby released figures for last couple of financial years but the year before Lampard (17/18) their wage bill was over £40m and last season it was reported to be £14m - whilst I'm sure it has be cut a lot quicker last season it's difficult to get from £40m to £14m over 2 seasons without it being cut over both of them Their loanees were all on 1st football league loans which are generally a bit cheaper (Wilson maybe not but can't be bothered to check) and they had some big sales like Vydra. They were obviously still big spenders int he league, but when the club is cutting and going backwards off the field as the Mel Morris era began to reach it's disastrous conclusion getting them to the PO Final and losing to a massive spending Villa side is hardly a poor job done

Lampard on 22:08 - Mar 7 by Illinoisblue | You look at their squad, though, and it’s average at best. Weak at the back, nothing in midfield and woeful in attack. How much are they paying Dele Ali for his retirement tour? Sort of awful signing Newcastle would have made before the oil money poured in. |
I watched their game at Southampton a couple of weeks ago. They were good for 10 minutes and then seemed to shrink into their shells but didn't concede. He took Allan off at half-time and my son just said 'they've lost this now, he was the only one keeping Soton at bay' and so it proved. They had nothing in front of the defence and crumbled. Decision making that a 17 year old spots as problematic and which arguably cost them 3 points. [Post edited 8 Mar 2022 12:59]
