This beautiful 5 year old gelding won't be racing any more. He was murdered at Cheltenham today. The owner, trainer and jockey will no doubt say how upset they are, but they are the ones responsible for his death. I don't understand how horse racing can be called a sport. 32 fatalities this year already.
I read last week that 200 horses are fatally injured in the UK every year whilst racing. Also, around ten per cent of retired race horses are slaughtered each year. Think this number also includes horses whose temperaments isn’t suited to racing.

It's an inconvenient truth. It's important to highlight this, because the majority of people aren't aware. Betting on horse racing means you're complicit, and I hope at least one person who reads this will vow never to bet on horses again.

I’m not a gambler and have only been to the races once. I’m not anti-horse racing as such but I know that there is a dark side to it that is glossed over or just ignored.
Maybe after reading about it more, in time I’ll be more anti that particular sport.

Have you got the figures for the number of horses killed by car drivers each year?

This is one of the oddest replies I have ever read on this forum. However the statistics from a couple years ago are.
2019-2020, 1,037 incidents were reported to the equine charity, an increase of 23% compared to the previous year. As a result of those incidents, a total of 80 horses were killed, which is close to two horses each week.
And no it’s not a sport.
