Ipswich 2 Derby 6 1976

And this is when our Home form was one of the best in the First division

I remember it was a bit lively in the North Stand that day with home fans mixed in with the Derby fans. A large (fat) Derby fan was being dragged out by Police and was spitting blood at the Ipswich fans claiming that he had been hit in the face with a brick. Oh the 70's...

That wasn't so bad, really. We knew we were already down barring miracles and we had fun in the away end - "Are you watching, Grimsby Town?", "We're going to Grimsby, we're going to Grimsby, you're not."

Ironically, the shenanigans around going or not going to Grimsby the next season were arguably what ultimately did for Burley.

My vote would be for the 0-3 v Sheffield United, with Tom Eastman sent off.

A dull wet day in early may. And yes I forgot Eastman got sent off in that one.

0-0 draw with Millwall. We could have got into the play-offs. , and they could have saved themselves from relegation. Their fans went on a rampage. My mother was in her late 70s and had been a season ticket holder for years. She never went to another game after that.

This was the game I thought of. It meant something. We were clueless, they were playing for a point and celebrated at the end …..until they realised they’d been relegated. Idiots. Their supporters? Expected trouble and of course they animals obliged. A thoroughly miserable day.

They other debacles like Wimbledon, Sheffield U, they didn’t matter so despite the disappointment it was a bit of a shoulder shrug job.
