Why on earth should we keep Kayden Jackson? 13:34 - Apr 26 with 3086 views | BonneNIL | I have seen a lot of praise for Kayden Jackson on here in recent months and it actually perplexes me as to why? The man has had all but a couple of good games for Ipswich in four years. When he wasn't injured, he was suspended for silly fouls, he threw his dummy out of the pram when Evans rejected his move to Barnsley and was sent to train with the kids, so why on earth should we be keeping him now he's approaching 30, having scored less than 20 goals in 100 odd games? He had a couple of good games and got injured again this season. It's not going to get any better with him, is it? I really didn't understand why many of us still want him on the books. He's just not been very good, and for the million quid we paid for him Accrington must have been laughing all the way to the bank as we sunk like a stone in the Championship.

Why on earth should we keep Kayden Jackson? on 15:26 - Apr 26 by STYG | Dear oh dear. We signed a top 6 Championship quality keeper in Walton, Chaplin who played regularly in a team who just finished in the Championship playoffs and Morsy, who was playing regularly for a team aiming for the playoffs in the Championship. Yet people continue to worry that we can't do better than a striker who has 1 goal in 24, another who has 2 goals in 20 and another who is a walking yellow card, often injured, a nightmare at times off the pitch and whose best season at this level was 10 goals. Unreal. |
So what if we have signed those players before, doesn't mean we have the money (to remain inside FFP) or ability to attract someone that can get 20+ goals a season with how we finished this season. We promised a lot last summer and its all still work in progress, are the types of striker we want willing to drop to L1 in the hope we finally turn it around? I am sure we can attract one or 2 better strikers than we have but we still need the likes of KJ for the squad. I think keeping Walton, Chaplin, Morsy, Burns is going to be as tough as finding the additional quality we need to take the next step.

If people want to look for it, there has been plenty of confirmation on how the funds can be managed and how the funding to attract players to get us out of this division are available. Obviously, you can sign a proven striker in the Championship (Bonne had 12 for relegated Charlton - so looked good to get 20 here, especially given his start) and they don't work out. But as one or two in the know have said, we are shopping as if we were promoted. We will have no trouble at all attracting quality here. We won't get every first choice target because some of those will be looking at a higher level, but we have a hell of a project, big crowds, ambitious owners and players will know we are going places. I also can't imagine any club making us an offer for any of our best players that the owners are going to accept unless it's absolutely mental money well above the players value. The pension fund want promotion. They know they need to invest to give us as close to a guaranteed chance of promotion as possible by giving us the very best squad we can attract for this level. After that it's down to the manager and the players to deliver on that potential.

I admire your optimism I truly hope it all plays out like that.

Also the same way he turned 28 in February

Good, good. We should revisit this thread when his goals total for ITFC is higher than his age.

Why on earth should we keep Kayden Jackson? on 18:49 - Apr 26 with 558 views | BlueForYou | Jackson has been employed here as a striker, no? His return is pitiful, he's here to score goals not play on the wing. Get rid asap. None of our so called strikers should be here next season. They're all hopeless!
Why on earth should we keep Kayden Jackson? on 19:00 - Apr 26 with 558 views | ArnieM | Well it’s simple really. 1) He has pace , runs at defenders , 2) he gets behind defences 3) he has a very good cross on him 4) he scores goals ( certainly has under McKenna) None of the following “ strikers”, Norwood, Bonne, Pigott have shown that capability this season, nor since McKenna has been here.

Why on earth should we keep Kayden Jackson? on 19:37 - Apr 26 with 547 views | Garv | I wouldn't be at all upset if he left. Don't think he's technically good enough and he relies so much on his pace to be useful. He doesn't really poach goals, but to be fair he does get the odd assist. I get why McKenna wants him. I'd like us to keep Norwood so I feel a bit hypocritical saying the above. They're both 'options' but shouldn't be starters, so arguably there isn't room for both. But if both Pigott and Bonne depart then could we see Jacko and Nors + two strikers next season, or is that too many?

I’d agree with that if we were talking about the next season being in the Championship, but we’re talking about League One. He was played in an optimal way by McKenna, and was really starting to fly when he got injured . We’ve been notably less effective as an attacking force I feel, since he’s been out of the team.

Yeah fair. And that's why you want options which both Jackson and Norwood are, for different reasons.
