Listening to PMQ's today you could be forgiven for thinking there would be excessively long delays in the issue of renewed passports.

Applied online on 4th May got immediate acknowledgement with request to post old passport to them. They didn't acknowledge receipt until 19th May but received a notification , in last half hour, that passport had been printed and will be with deliver agent in next few days who will supplying tracking information, old passport will be posted back under separate cover and will take a little longer to arrive.

Wife applied at same time but while my application is being dealt with in Durham hers is being handled in Liverpool. Annoyingly this means had to pay twice for postage She received notification this morning that hers had also been printed.

PS I don't care what colour it is.

That's strange because I just applied for a renewal for my Mrs and they wouldn't activate the process of the new one until they received the old one back.

...............But I now live in hope.

Applied for mine on Monday, they have sent a chasing email that I need to send my old passport to them. Sent it off signed for 1st class, will be interested to see how long it takes.
Need it for a September holiday to Crete.

It's only taken them this long because they spend every afternoon partying.

I hoped you are humbled by this information.

Sent our old ones recorded delivery so knew when they received them, they didn't acknowledge receipt until 12 days later.

Should have told them you’d lost it.

We renewed our daughters a few weeks back. Was all fairly quick. However, aged 15 she still only gets a 5 year passport (despite not being half the cost of an adults)

To update original post.

Wife received her new passport yesterday TNT are due to deliver mine today. That is 21 & 22 days respectively after the online application was completed. Received text and email updates as each stage was reached. Longest gap, 12 days, was between old passport posted back and acknowledgment of receipt.

Applications were dealt with at different offices, Durham and Liverpool.

Only travel for leisure purposes so timescale is acceptable, not sure it is adequate for regular business travellers unless they have a quicker turnaround for those who apply for the larger, more pages, passport.

Would recommend sending old passport by recorded delivery so you can check up that it has arrived.

I think they activate it and start working on the application in the background, on the assumption they'll get it back. But they wouldn't send it to print until they've got your old one back. That's what I heard as they have so many to process.

I got that message for 2 weeks after submitting my application, even though I'd sent the old passport back by recorded post and it reached them within about 2 days! I think they are sitting on them. From reading Pinewood's post, it seems he had a similar experience.

Expect it to take about 4-5 weeks to get your new passport.

Ms. Rozz just had her notice that hers has printed, having sent the application less than 3 weeks ago. I'd say wait time is about a month atm door to door.

Wife received hers within 3 days of being told it was being printed. Mine looks like it will be the same.

We have twins, sent their passports renewals off at the same time. One was back in just under four weeks, the other took over eleven weeks!
