Only went and bumped into an ex-ITFC player last night… 16:11 - May 26 with 5265 viewsSitfcB

…in the clubhouse of a Haven caravan site down in Cornwall.

Paul Taylor!

He’s still having injections for that injury he got whilst here and admits he wasn’t ever the same player after that.

Bit awkward when he asked me if I liked Mick McCarthy

Tbf no, obviously only spoke for a few minutes but he was nice enough and engaging, quite sincere and apologetic about his time here.

Probably not the same point of view the bar staff and door staff of ipswich have of him. A copper I know even has little good to say about him.

He did play a handful of really good games for us, but sadly his time here will always be measured in his time off the pitch.

Quite the effort you've made to check the minutes he played, only to make a poor argument.

Player didn't score in two and a half games so can't have played well.

That we paid £1.5m for a player who had one moderately good season, who then got a long term and career changing injury within a few games and then got nicked for assault.

Peak banter era.

He was comfortably our best player at Boro away that season but he obviously was a massive failure here given price tag. We wanted Boyd more than him and was yet another disastrous decision from those running the club at the time.

‘Quite the effort you've made’ - it took all of 1 minute fella

I would suggest still championing Taylor on the basis he was ok but ineffective for a whole 2 and half games is a much poorer argument. And even if he was our best player during those games (which he wasn’t), that spell was in the Paul Jewell side which started the season with 1 win in 12 games before he was sacked

Also, in those 12 games:
Goals per game in the 3 games Taylor played - 0.66
Goals per game in the other 9 games - 0.89

What a baller

My ex and I met him in a hotel bar in Stevenage a few years back. Had a long chat with him regarding his time with us, and he was very honest about it all. He then brought us both a drink. He came across as a really nice bloke to be fair.

I've said history was re-written and that he gets unfairly labelled as crap, I'm not championing anyone.

Nice stats though, fella.

He doesn’t get unfairly labelled as crap, he gets labelled as crap as we paid 7 figures for him and got 25 appearances, 1 goal, and from memory no assists in return. Not to mention being arrested for beating someone up whilst out injured

He has subsequently proven himself to be crap by dropping down the leagues. In fact according to Wiki, he scored a whole 28 goals across his career

‘I’m not championing anyone’…says poster rewriting history to suggest the above player was not crap because he ran around a bit in a couple of games after he signed

Complete and utter crap

Cool. If you're going to be that black and white about it and use Wikipedia to form your opinion and not accept someone having a different one, then I'll leave it there.

I haven’t formed my opinion on Wikipedia, I formed it by watching him with my own eyes and how little he offered us. His stats whilst here, and indeed across his career, just reinforce that opinion that he is a completely ineffective footballer

Utter crap, and one of the worst signings in our history
