With Ball's arrival, along with Morsy, Evans and El Miz (as back up).. Does anyone think we need another DM Fielder? ... In an ideal world with no long term injuries to these players, we look pretty sorted imo... My only concerns are Evans fitness and full recovery, and Morsy's disciplinary record... All squads get stretched at some point in the season.. But do you think we are covered in that position now?... Where does Harper come into the fray..?.. I asked KMc about him as I think he's of a profile he'd like as a centre-half, although maybe also at left-back. Think he'll definitely be involved in pre-season and with a view to being involved in the first team rather than just as part of the wider squad, which I think has been the case in previous years.

Off topic from the OP. But would love to see Ndaba break through into our first team set up.. Crucial season for him and his career path, imo. Given his progress, out on loan last year.. Wouldn't want to see, another promising youngster, getting twitchy, ala Simpson. If they thought their path was stalling in any way... Don't think there is a huge jump between top half league 2 and bottom/mid league 1 standards, for me...Crunch games against fellow promotion chasers, top 6-8 league 1 sides, would be a stiffer test though... Would be massive , for me, if the likes of Humphrey and Ndaba, were fully blooded into the set up this coming season. Without compromising our overall goals.. Everyone loves a youngster , coming through the system.. | | | |

I assumed that KMc was talking about Evans when he mentioned that the ex-Man United ITFC supporters branch were impressed with one player in particular when they watched us away at Doncaster.

Once again on paper we already have a decent 20/21 man squad (need 2/3 more in my view) however I am loathed to get too ahead of myself after the excitement of the avalanche of players who were meant to be far too good for league 1 and then went on and did nothing!!
What I am liking though is we are getting our business done early, let’s start pre season with the squad we start the season with. Not buying Morsy and Walton until end of august cost us majorly, same mistake won’t be repeated. |

Hot take;
I wonder if Evans will be allowed to leave this summer. He's spent the last few months of the season on the sideline with 'little injuries' that seem to be overlapping each other. He is not as driven as Morsy on the pitch, he isn't as aggressive and resolute as Dominic Ball has been for QPR, and I don't think he is mobile enough for a playmaker.
I know there job is collect, pass and recycle each game, and he had a strong long pass in his locker. But I don't feel comfortable with Evans collecting the ball in a tight space, his back to the opposition.
Widely inaccurate comparison, but you watch someone like Thiago for Liverpool. How quickly he retrieves the ball from the defence, turns and plays his pass. I don't think Evans is 'alert' enough to play like that. You think about how nippy Fraser Alexander and Cam Humphrey's have been for the 23's, I'm not sure Evans is that guy.

If he had that ability to collect and turn in tight spaces on top of his passing, positioning and physical strength then he wouldn't be playing in league one.
Humphreys like you say, does have that ability but is nowhere near as strong or defensively-minded. He'd be better as a 10 or an 8, not as one of the two cms in the 3421 imo. | |
