3 players short? on 13:46 - Jul 31 with 608 views | PioneerBlue | Lots of people making lots of snap judgements on the face of one early season game against a settled team expected to do well in L1. We didn’t concede in open play. The defensive is settled, Davis looked fine and was unlucky not to get more ball for the pen, either way Leigh looks decent too. Defence isn’t a concern for me, it hasn’t really been a concern for a few seasons other than individual mistakes early last season. We happened not to take a few chances yesterday, but in one game we’ve seen our availability to carve a team open. Ladapo is already taking up positions and receiving the ball in areas that Bonne and Norwood never could because he has the ability to take the ball and commitment defenders. A few players haven’t completely hit their stride and we adopted more of the 4231 yesterday which is a more deliberate change on the day. The only profiles we don’t have are a goal scoring CM’er and a Hirst type striker. I’m not even sure KMcK wants that type of midfielder given the noise around Celina and Hirst. 1 month of the transfer window to go. I would take either of both of Celina or Hirst.

3 players short? on 11:49 - Jul 31 by Dyland | Agreed. Wolf is the most prone to errors or rather being caught in possession imo. That's not a criticism btw, just that of the three Janoi is probably the least error prone, over last season and a bit anyway. |
Part of Woolf getting occasionally caught in possession is that how he's being asked to play. Draw the attackers onto him to create space to develop attacks rather than hoof it forward and lose possession. Sometimes it will go wrong, often it will launch something. It also requires the likes of Evans and the other CBs to give him options - the goal conceded at Millwall was partly Evans fault for not giving him the option. As for JD he had far more passes into the final 3rd and box entries than any other player. Not bad for a CB! https://twitter.com/ITFCAnalytics?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr% [Post edited 31 Jul 2022 14:35]

Again, totally agree. Crazy to think Cook (or his system or whatever, if one wants to be very very kind) saw Wolf overlooked in favour of Nsiala. I like Toto but come on...

I wouldn’t like to pin our promotion hopes on an largely unproven and very expensive Hirst……
3 players short? on 15:18 - Jul 31 with 523 views | ghostofescobar | Is Edmundson not dominant? Would we really get much better in the 3rd tier? We’ve needed a striker since Daryl Murphy hay days. For me, that’s the only glaring deficiency in the squad at present.

3 players short? on 15:19 - Jul 31 with 521 views | Kropotkin123 | Our primary defensive issue yesterday was Edmundson taking too long on the ball when playing it out and getting caught a couple of times. I don't see the JD issue.

Going to take Fridge a game or two to get his full sharpness back but worth sticking with it.

We did dominate basically every team in possession last season, create a boat load of chances and put barely any of them away. It's not a snap judgement to say we need a proper striker to stick in the onion bag 20 times this season. Otherwise we'll be back to saying how entertaining etc it is but still giving 4 points to Cambridge home and away.

Isn’t that exactly what I said. I do think it is early to say that Ladapo isn’t going to be the man though.
