Royal mail strike 16:46 - Aug 31 with 3369 views | Tractorgirlforever | Where do you think it will end?. I feel like yes we should strike but we are going without pay but going in to double the work the next day!.. surely royal mail are the only winners here?. I can see this dragging on.

Royal mail strike on 05:57 - Sep 1 by Tractorgirlforever | The difference is we worked with a massive workload through covid , our workload increased by more than 5X, we were told RM were making a loss when it turns out durinig that time they made huge profits and paid out over 400 million of it to shareholders and millions on bonuses for those high up who sat at home with computers during covid . |
Sad as it is, it's a similar situation to many other companies/industries I'm intrigued to know how workload increases 5x though...are you now working 200 hours a week or were you just working 8-10 hours previously? Joking aside, I hope that you get some kind of result...as Wickets says above though I wouldn't bank on it...

Would assume millions of testing kits were being distributed adding to the load. I won't pretend to know how that would make up 5x but can see how it would increase the load a lot.

Royal mail strike on 17:10 - Aug 31 by Zx1988 | It sounds like it could well be part of the plan from higher up, especially given the pressure and dirty tricks it sounds as if they've been using. I know that I know nothing of your conditions or situation, but can you just hold your nose as it were, and just deliver one day's worth of mail every day? Yes it might inconvenience the customers, but then it might just spur them on into pressuring those in management to actually do something about it. Then, at least, if you work to rule when you're not actively striking, you're still hitting the company whilst taking home full pay. |
Working to rule can be declared as an option short of a strike, can't it? Whereas this has gone to ballot for a full walk out by the sounds of it, so that's what needs to happen. It can be incredibly tough financially on those striking, agreed. Especially the longer strikes like the coal miners - really grim stuff. I guess that's part of why so many people aren't in unions anymore as they don't want to make that decision to forego pay while striking. Logic says its worth holding out in the short term for longer term gain, but I suppose it doesn't always work out like that (back to the coal miners again).

We also used to have dwarf shagger Big_John_SAFC in the postman mix. It was him that introduced me to Roy Keanes nutcase of a brother.

Royal mail strike on 17:05 - Aug 31 by Tractorgirlforever | Yes im a postie, we dont get any strike pay. By rights we could say we are finishing our shift on time tomorrow but its a difficult one when you have your own round and you see mail building up day after day, 2 days of strike for next week too, i find it frustrating, i know something needs to be done as our workload just seems to keep growing and expectations keep rising. Its become an impossible job to do in your allocated time |
In my opinion, the strikes are doomed to failure. I think the board will spin off the parcels business leaving the unionised workforce in the letters business to rot | | | | Login to get fewer ads

When covid hit it was coming up to what is normally our quiet time of year, we get may through to september before it starts to pick up for xmas, as soon as the kids go back to school but when covid hit and lockdowns happened everybody was ordering off the internet and like you said covid testing kits, which are tracked items so require scanning and had to be delivered before a certain time of day. It was suddenly busier than christmas, i physically couldnt fit everything into the van, we were working very long hours and playing catvh up every day. There was definitely a 5X increase in parcels, thankfully not in mail, infact there was more than a 5x increase on what we would expect for that time of year. I really was out delivering until 8 oclock in the evening some days!.

Of course online ordering was massive wasn't it. Overlooked it ridiculously but yes of course. We all went mad for online ordering.

Royal mail strike on 23:00 - Sep 2 with 580 views | Bugs | My small business relies on Royal Mail to get the goods I sell to customers quickly . Delays due to strikes don't do me any favours at all. But I back the Royal Mail strikers all the way and hope you get the deal and terms you deserve.

Not only through Royal Mail and couriers. Loads of local businesses really stepped up and started doing local deliveries/services. Some of those will now have to close as they can’t afford their energy bills. I had monthly wine deliveries from our local offie; talk about disaster preparedness!

Disappointed to see that, despite their best efforts, a couple of the local services here are about to go. Nice restaurant/hotel and a wine bar/restaurant. Shows how even in a tourist hot spot previously popular places have been hard hit.
