Past couple of flights I've been on, had terrible vertigo when the plane turned making the flight quite unpleasant, doctor said I have BPPV, essentially crystals in the inner dislodged and said I should have a few sessions of this.
Be interested to see if anyone else has had the same?
Yes I've had this quite recently. The first time I had it was quite frightening. Didn't know what was going on. All I did was get up out of bed and the room was spinning wildly and took an hour to subside.
Fast forward to a month ago and I was getting this regularly from just going from lying down to getting up. I did the exercises but it needed some medication to help me out. The exercises are nasty. They just bring on the very worst of the symptoms but eventually went away. Lasted me about a fortnight and I was a wreck in that time but safe in the knowledge that it would go away and no lasting damage. That was key for me, it will pass.

Cheers Gav, the last two flights were awful, didn't know what was going on, just felt like I was on a roller-coaster for half an hour, someone mentioned it was a delay from your eyes to your ears and it would be better if you looked outside the plane window when turning.
Where did you get the procedure done? was it Local?

It's only an exercise that you do yourself, on your bed, several times a day.
I've just looked it up on youtube and the top results are different to what I did, but all very similar.

I've had this. Was originally diagnosed as labyrinthitis. I resolved it with the video below. My 86 year old mum was getting similar symptoms and this technique has also resolved hers. Good luck!
It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

When I first saw you mention this, I assumed the Epley Manoeuvre Procedure was something to do with the sophisticated game of strategy, Mornington Crescent.
I was diagnosed with BPPV three years ago. It's very unpleasant as you say, but according to my doc, quite common after you turn 50. I did the exercises, which succeeded in getting rid of it after 2 or 3 weeks, rather than wait for the 2 or 3 months it could have taken for the crystals to settle naturally. I have had 3 or 4 funny turns since then, but nothing as significant as the first episode, and I haven't needed to do the exercises again (which are also pretty unpleasant, as Gav said). Occasionally, if I turn my head too quickly, I get that sickly feeling, but it passes swiftly (actually, as soon as I have stopped perving at the blonde in the short skirt!) Rollercoasters are out (thankfully) and I haven't suffered during the couple of flights I have taken since then. Although, as far as I understand, there is no cure, I am hoping that the first episode will have been the worst. Also, of course, the "B" stands for "benign ", which was reassuring to me. Good luck with it.

Cheers, did you have similar issues whilst on a plane? Had a few issues when in bed with that feeling, but the flight was awful.
Now BIG caveat that everyone is different, Internet medical advice is a minefield, etc etc
But got it from winter swimming… was literally spinning out all the time, bad case of vertigo…
Got mrs unstable and unstable junior to perform following a YouTube video… and it went immediately, completely bizarre
The other thing I took from it was… how frickin amazing the human body is… we basically evolved a canal filled with crystals and nerves that basically mirrors the motion/direction sensor of an iPhone… incredible

Thanks for the comforting words!
I haven't (yet) had any problems on a plane, although I've only been on two short flights (Portugal and Italy) since the first episode. I did have a dizzy moment when taking a lesson in a light aircraft, when we banked sharply to the left, but thankfully it passed after just a couple of seconds.
A couple of other points have come back to me. First, after the symptoms disappeared first time around, I still found that I would become dizzy if I turned my head or looked up, so try to keep your head as still as possible until, eventually (a few more weeks in my case), the symptoms will go altogether. Secondly, when lying down, I found that the spinning sensation only came on when I lay on one side but not the other. I'm sure you've figured this out but if not and if/when you need some respite...

What medication did you get Gav? All I got from my doc was a sick bag after he put my head in a headlock and yanked it from side to side!

Cheers, I've found laying on side ok, but lying on my back can cause issues, going to give it a go and see how I get on as it's getting worse.
Played tennis the other week and had a few issues when looking up and turning so it needs to be nipped in the bud!
