Businesses have lost enough money over the past few years. Small businesses that make the most of sport attendances etc and other areas, really shouldn't be facing a day of minimal business whilst events are cancelled. [Post edited 8 Sep 2022 19:32]

I didn’t choose to have a monarch, I don’t support the principal, I don’t believe anyone is ‘over us’ as the song says. I love football, I love Ipswich town, it’s a part of my life I embrace and adore. Why should I be forced to miss the latter for the former?

People can go to work tomorrow, but god forbid people want to go and enjoy themselves watching some football on a Saturday. National anthem, minutes silence and black armbands and then get on with your lives by living them. We shouldn't stop.
Appreciate its a sensitive subject on 22:13 - Sep 8 with 1405 views | thecheek | This evening's horse racing fixtures were cancelled soon after they started when the news came through. As are all tomorrow's meeting including a high profile one at Doncaster. The hospitality industry that serves racing employs many on zero hours contracts who will lose out Not what Lizzie would have wanted especially as it was her sport......

Appreciate its a sensitive subject on 21:17 - Sep 8 by LegendofthePhoenix | I think this is the relevant point. For fans, we can choose whether to mourn or o to matches, but if there are players who want to mourn, where does it leave them? tbh, I'd be surprised if anything more than a small minority of players were in this category, but that may be because of my own thoughts on the matter. |
I don't have an option to take time off work this week to mourn. If I made that choice unilaterally I would either lose pay, holiday time (which as a contractor I don't have) or my job. For the footballers, their job is to play football, it is not a leisure activity for them. Therefore if the governing body says that games will be played, then it is up to the players to play or to have the discussion with their managers as to why they are unable or unwilling to do so.

Yep. Fear of being accused of lacking respect will almost certainly see tomorrow's matches cancelled. I can't go anyway but there is clearly no real reason to cancel the matches. I've already lost the cricket today which, after yesterday, makes the entire Test match pointless.

Yes, I was at The Oval yesterday but at least will get a full refund. Not sorry today's cricket has been cancelled as the forecast is again poor so I will get another refund. Agreed that this whole Test has become near pointless is they can't add on an extra day. I though stopping the golf at Wentworth mid round yesterday was an odd decision.

They need to get on with it as it's not fair on people who have made plans I personally don't think it's necessary to postpone games as a mark of respect when so much else will happen but if they are going to do it they should have made a decision by now.

I guess they're waiting to be told to do it or so-called "guidance". My understanding is that the Palace has sensibly indicated that they don't want all sporting fixtures cancelled.

The DCMS are holding a 'guidance' meeting with all sporting bodies now then it's up to those bodies whether to take whatever advice they're given or not. Premier League meeting at 11am so imagine we'll know by midday.

i really hope that is the case. if they postpone tomorrow they'd probably be stuck with a decision meaning they have to postpone everything up until and including the day of the funeral.

Yep, much better to go ahead now, with appropriate marks of respect, and then suspend anything on the day of the funeral.

Appreciate its a sensitive subject on 11:53 - Sep 9 with 615 views | ronnyd | The Tour of Britain cycle race has been concluded with three stages left to go. The standings at the end of yesterdays stage are now the final result. There is a hell of a lot of work in organising that. Bit disappointed, but not surprised.
Appreciate its a sensitive subject on 13:06 - Sep 9 with 564 views | BlueForYou | Just been informed that Rugby can go ahead this weekend, but games can be called off if both clubs agree. Tonight's Premier Rugby games are off though. Seems like muddled advice from the RFU.
