Interesting League of Ireland statistic. 18:33 - Sep 15 with 1121 viewsEireannach_gorm

Shamrock Rovers, current League of Ireland champions earned more money for a draw in their first Europa Conference League match than for winning the league.

Contrast that with the ' 100million pounds for finishing bottom of the premier league ' post.

Off-topic, in rugby Union there’s a single Irish team, do you think that this will happen sooner or later with the football team with a single Irish league?

That's an incredible stat, especially when it's only the Conference League, not even the Champions League

Short answer is that it will be later than sooner.

Long answer is contained in this article ( note Glasgow Celtic mentioned here ).

UEFA seem to be very much against leagues spread across two or more countries. You'd think there would be much more interest in football in the Baltic states, for example, if they could combine their leagues. (But I can see that a re-formed Yugoslav league back together would not be a good idea.)

I don't think it will, they split in the early part of the last century due to a row about where the IFA (NI assocation) were based
