Don't drink and hunt 16:35 - Oct 5 with 2289 views | StokieBlue | https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/oct/05/french-hunters-react-angrily-drink Incredible that this was even something to be discussed (although I guess in places like the US a few beers and a hunt is pretty common but it's a much bigger country with empty spaces). Some of the numbers for France are crazy: 2020-21: 80 hunting accidents, 7 fatalities 2019-20: 131 hunting accidents, 11 fatatlies This is quite impressive mental gymnastics as well, hunter kills someone mountain biking so the solution of a pro-hunting MP is to ban offroad cycling during hunting season. "In 2018, a 24-year-old hunter killed Marc Sutton, 34, a Welsh restaurateur living in Haute-Savoie who was out on his mountain bike. The hunter was sentenced to four years in prison, with three of them suspended. Afterwards, a pro-hunt Macron-supporting MP suggested banning offroad cycling during the hunting season." Bizarre. I can only imagine you have a keyboard with stuck keys. I wouldn't like to speculate how they became stuck though. SB

Don't drink and hunt on 17:03 - Oct 5 with 1710 views | GeoffSentence | “What right do you have to pick on hunters; a drunk guy on a bicycle is dangerous too,” Whilst technically correct, I think it would be fair to say that they would not be anywhere as near as dangerous to the public at large as a drunk guy with a gun.

It's a pretty odd thing to do in general so I would think you're right. Just firearms and alcohol don't seem like a great mix. SB

I'd go as far as to suggest firearms on their own aren't exactly good.

What is more odd if you eat meat? Hunting it or buying it in a little tray from your local supermarket?

Passers-by don't tend to get shot in supermarket aisles would be one significant difference I guess.

Easy now - Just don't shoot anyone when you're out lamping.

Is where we introduce to the discussion where drugs might fit in? Would those be more or less dangerous than a few beers?

On puff, you'd never be quick enough to get a shot off. Everyone should puff for safety reasons.

Yes but I think it was hunting that Stokie described as "odd" regardless of collateral damage. [Post edited 5 Oct 2022 17:19]

LSD and firearms = no never Crack and firearms = only when holding a handgun at a 90 degree angle like a proper gangsta Heroin and firearms = yer gonna be to sleepy E and firearms = I just don't think you would fancy playing with guns but you never know. Weed and firearms= it's a no from me but I have a irish/American friend now living back in Montana who's hobbies are weed and hunting, usually together. So again who knows

But nonetheless: "saying its members are being “stigmatised” and caricatured. It says 91% of breathalyser tests after hunting incidents are negative." So the claim is that despite the fact it already doesn't happen much but they don't want a law saying it mustn't happen.

Deer hunting here in the Midwest is a HUGE thing. It’s a short season and my brother in law goes off to the woods every year with his buddies. Fair to say it’s more of a drinking and strip club weekend away for the boys than it is a hunting trip. I think he’s got a deer one year in the 20 years I’ve known him.

Massive, absolutely horrendous Much the same difference as the UK and US in gun killing It is wholesale slaughter for migrating song birds - 200,000 skylarks, for instance "France is not the only country in Europe that sees hunters decimate bird populations. It is estimated that between 11 million and 36 million birds are illegally killed or taken in Mediterranean countries every year, many of them while migrating. More than 5 million birds are believed to be illegally hunted every year in Italy; in October, Italian hunters were found in Norway with 2,000 dead thrushes. Verilhac says French hunters are now travelling to Morocco to hunt turtledoves, where each hunter is allowed to kill 50 a day."

It does beg the question of who 'owns' wild birds If a pheasant files out of a hedgerow and smashes into my radiator it is not the farmer's responsibility - yet were I to catch the same pheasant while it is in the hedgerow, I am a poacher (I was once a victim of the first)
