We're not clinical enough 18:49 - Oct 15 with 2319 viewsDubtractor

It's been evident all season that we don't score as many as we should, given the opportunities we create and positions we get into, but it was pretty remarkable today.

May seem odd to say that, given how many we do score, but I genuinely think we should have quite a few more, especially at home.

I'm pretty certain we'll be looking again to get a fox in the box option in January.

After Joe said his contract is up in Jan it made me wonder

Well worth a punt, obviously we have Ahadme also but Wickham if he still has it, could surely still improve

I'd agree on Clarke-Harris, not that Posh are likely to sell him to a rival

You really want to be securing a striker who can then step up to the Championship

MM was pretty good at finding these players, he did it with both Sears and McGoldrick

He got way more out of Murphy than he should have done and Waghorn after that really

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

I always wonder how easy it is to coach 'composure,' which is decision making as much as anything and finally finishing.

Mick Mills seemed to be of the opinion that you can coach players and improve them but fundamentally, talent trumps coaching, either your players have it or they don't

He seemed to feel that personnel is the key

We play some brilliant football at times and have some really talented skillful players but we lack high quality strikers

We are League One quality in the striking department for sure, would Ladapo, Ahadme, TJJ or Jackson start in Wednesday or Pompey's line up for example?

There's a few other teams who have better strikers, Posh with Clarke-Harris for example

Perhaps even Wickham at Forest Green?

Mills is of course right about players having it or not and you are only as good as your forwards (Joe Royle). Ours are not as good as the sides at the top and are the weakest element in the team. There’s nobody who can reliably put the ball away. You are right, they wouldn’t make it in the teams you mention.

Not sure about Wickham though. Nostalgia over what he could actually bring to the table these days?

And yet up until today we were the highest scorers in the division.

Indeed. I'd say we are not decisive enough rather than clinical. Most of our chances are not leading to one on ones with a keeper or clear sights at goal.

Teams no longer give us space behind as they know we will destroy them so we have to look for a second or third pass, that leads too often leads to a fourth, fifth or fifteenth pass and the move breaks down.

It's been great when the results come but today is leading us into a danger of "sideways" moaning when ultimately we are still playing very well and the only thing that's held us back until now has been some very dubious officiating at key moments.

You're making the same point as me tbh.

We play lots of excellent football, get into lots of excellent positions, but ultimately don't test the keeper enough considering that. That's partly about finishing, but probably more about that final pass not making the mark.

Yesterday it was at it's most acute, but we've seen similar in a number of home games, and in some away too. Plymouth being the obvious example, where we were pummelling them after halftime but didn't make anything of it, then they got a goal against the run of play and the rest is history.

I'm not too concerned overall, as if we keep dominating games as we are then we'll still win most of them, but we could make the whole experience much more comfortable!
