Ball or Humphreys on Saturday? 09:04 - Nov 8 with 3270 viewsDubtractor

McKenna has a tough decision to make on who partners Morsy on Saturday.

Ball will already be frustrated by how little football he has had since signing, and won't have come here to be a regular bench warmer. But there is no hiding from the fact he has looked average at best for us so far, and Humphreys looks impressive every time he gets a game.

I suspect McKenna will play it safe and pick Ball, but I'd far rather see Humphreys get the nod, as we need the passing range that he brings and Ball doesn't.

Don't think he'd influence the game as much from there.

Did you not see the game last season? Hoooooooof!

Exactly we failed to break them down last season and they will pack the defence again. Celina did his best and had Burns converted the great chance could have been different. For that reason we need Humphreys in to play that killer pass between the lines of defenders and I don't see who else can do that certainly not Ball.

Thought Humphreys was pretty quiet until the game opened up a bit last 20 minutes, tbf. Although I was pleased to see him in a more advanced role this time out.
Morsy seems to be the only one we've got who can really handle a midfield scrap. but still have something going forwards, when time and space are limited.
Think we'll see Morsy and Ball start Saturday (assuming Ball is fit). With Harness and Chaplin in the AM slots. Both should be fresher..
Edwards, Camara and Humpheys as good bench options.

Side note.. Imo, everyone looked better last 30 minutes against Bracknell, when they started to tire a bit. Had Ball stayed on, he may also have looked better during that period.

Not sure there's a decision to make. Both play completely different CM roles, unless you're wanting Morsy to sit deeper which I don't think gets the best out of him?

Appreciate we were playing Bracknell and it was probably partly due to them tiring but we looked miles better when Humphreys dropped back into the 2 and Ball went off. He has a range of passing and vision to spot runs that neither Ball or Morsy have. He's a lock picker. I suspect Cheltenham are going to set up to frustrate and there is no need to have Ball and Morsy playing. It was Evans coming on against Cambridge that changed that game.

Humphreys is a close to Evans as we have. He has to play.
With Davis back. And the space he and Burns/Jackson finds, we need someone with the ability to ping the ball round. Not lose the ball when attempting a 10 yard pass.

a niche perspective
