I wonder how many will watch the world cup 22:15 - Nov 9 with 4190 views | BondiBlue | Usually the club season has finished and there's no other football on. I'm not sure i'll have the time or focus to watch england, australia and ipswich. Maybe fans of prem clubs who are having a break.

I wonder how many will watch the world cup on 22:50 - Nov 10 by quirkie | FIFA have refused Denmark permission from wearing shirts that say "Pro-human rights" just in training. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/63590339 This WC can go swivel, an utter farce. Still time for right minded nations to say balls to this and boycott it. Won't happen, money talks end of the day. such a shame. |
They should do it anyway along with the other European nations, the USA and anyone else who wants to make a statement. Can FIFA really punish them? Would just advance their eventual demise.

I wonder how many will watch the world cip on 10:22 - Nov 10 by loyalfan | Well said! All these people letting others know they aren't going to watch are just trying to make a statement. I will watch as many matches as possible- its football! This is often a really depressing time of year and to have England involved in Live Sport is great......im not ignoring the really bad points about this WC but its happening and I'm just going to enjoy the ride. |
"All these people letting others know they aren't going to watch are just trying to make a statement" That's immensely shallow and completely unfair and misses the fact the OP asked. It's a contentious matter with good reason. And if some people want to make a statement then power to them for standing up to be counted. To suggest people who are uneasy about it are somehow virtue-signalling is not much short of ignorant tbh. There will be a lot who want to watch England but can't help but wish the situation was altogether different. The shine has been removed for many fans and that doesn't change just because you don't want to acknowledge it. As for others suggesting it's "like this every time" are also missing the point. This isn't like other times for all the reasons that have been well-documented. Speaking for myself I always look forward to the international tournaments with interest but am unhappy about this one. Like most I will also want England to do well. As always. It's possible to feel two things at the same time you know.

I wonder how many will watch the world cup on 16:24 - Nov 10 by itfcjoe | I'll watch all the England games, plus whatever I can get away with from kids and wife in group stages then majority of knockout ones that don't clash with other plans |
Same here, though I've just discovered we play Wales at 7pm on the 29th and that's the take off time of my flight that evening

I wonder how many will watch the world cup on 09:43 - Nov 10 by textbackup | happens every time, regardless of when.... people think its edgy, or different, or cool... same as the anti pizza cup knobs, they'll all be there if we got to a final "oh i dont support england, dont care...." come the 1/4's they are marching around to vindaloo |
Indeed, happens every single time. It’s like it’s ‘cool’ to say you don’t care about England, oh and you also have to tell every single person you know that you’re not watching it, just like a vegan mentions every 10 seconds that they’re a vegan. [Post edited 11 Nov 2022 13:04]

However, some people like me don't actually really care. I want them to do well, but i'm more upset at ipswich drawing 4-4 with CHarlton the other week compared to England losing the Euro final. Sorry if thats "edgy" or "cool", but its genuinely how I felt. Ipswich lost in trhe FA cup final, i'd probably feel crap for days after. England losing that final I was fine 2 mins afterwards. Nobody’s asked you to care, or to make comparisons to Ipswich and the FA Cup final, yet you still have to tell everyone. “oh i dont support england, dont care...." come the 1/4's they are marching around to vindaloo” - Textbackup.
