Is an FA cup run what we actually want right now? 18:41 - Jan 3 with 3396 views | ringwoodblue | I was thinking about the Rotherham game and wondering how important we should be treating this game given our priority is the league and securing promotion. If I was McKenna, I don’t think I’d risk injuries to any of our key players like Walton, Davis, Morsy and Chaplin for a competition we have no realistic chance of winning. I know Rotherham are in a poor run of form and a good cup run is long overdue but with players recovering from injuries and illness and with the Plymouth game coming up, is it really worth it? I would expect us to play a strong team. If we rest the first team, they will be rusty having not played for nearly 2 weeks! There will be no shame if we lose to Rotherham (it has become a common occurrence!) but it would be great to show we are ready to play them now. |
Completely agree with this. We need a win, or at least a confidence boosting performance against a side that is not going to set out to frustrate.

I only say this as the squad have been recovering from illness and might need the rest. If everyone is fully fit and well then play a strong team. We might as well. As others have said it's done us no good at all 'concentrating on the league' for quite a while now.

Is an FA cup run what we actually want right now? on 09:16 - Jan 4 by Steve_M | I don't think we were in February 1992 though, we were well placed but it was only in late March we really hit that point with five wins in a row. My point on the benefit the players got from it still stands though but I'm quite sure we'll rest a few players too. |
From Boxing Day through to the middle of March, we lost one game, winning the rest. In the run up to the first Liverpool game, we won 6/7. That included a 5-2 hammering of Portsmouth the week before the windy 0-0. I saw the home games plus the two London ones. That is why I thought at the time we were nailed on and could afford to give it a go against the scousers.
