Even if Lambert had stormed the division in the first season and we were promoted cause of the covid-halted season, why reward a 50 year old manager with a 5 year deal for promotion from league 1

Oddly enough, we then went on a run that took us to 1st place in league one by then end of January.

We then proceeded to completely fall apart.

Which suggests that Lambert's own motivation played a big part in how well he did the job here. He was motivated when he first came in and it showed in how the team played but there was too much of a gap in quality to catch up.

That we were top at the end of January and not in touch with the play-offs six weeks later is the biggest indictment of PL's time here. An utterly awful few weeks of performances and football.

Yep. It was incredibly frustrating that after clawing our way back to the top of the table on January 25th we then went in to lose 7 of our next 9.

Can’t get my head around why things went so badly.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

Without wishing to do a Mach, let's not forget the gossamer thin mentality of the squad we had then, which seemed to go to pieces the minute any sense of expectation was put on them. Worst of all, I could never shake the nagging feeling that they resented having to meet expectations. There was a sickness over the club which seemed to suck the life out of everything.

I was driving home from the north east when it was announced and as we pulled into a service station my wife got a notification and told me.

I was laughing uncontrollably as it felt ridiculous
