Chelsea pay £9.7m 16:41 - Jan 11 with 1623 viewsBlueNomad

for a half season loan. The game gets madder.

There's a big part of me wants us in the PL but it is crossing into a cess pit.

What's the situ with that striker they signed from barca. Apparently he might be going back but they won't pay a fee. Its all a bit strange.

I think that includes his salary from what was said on The Athletic podcast.

His salary will be £5-6m of that amount.

If he scores the goals to take Chelsea into the champions league then that outlay will be dwarfed by the amounts they’ll make by being in that competition.

I understood the salary was in addition. Impression I got from Talksport today anyway but I may be wrong - Mrs says I usually am

If that's the case, then it is mad.

Atletico paid about 135 million euros for him about 3 seasons ago. From what I've seen they overpaid by about 120 million. Decent player with the (very) occasional moment of brilliance. Probably not what Chelsea need but apparently fell out with Simeone so had to go somewhere, and the biggest mugs were in West London.

I guess when you look at a transfer fee for a player signed on a 3-year contract, a £9.7m fee is the equivalent of below £60M transfer fee without the risk of having to pay their wages for another 2.5 years should the player fail, get injured or fall out of favour.

That"s a fair point but he's really not a player that guarantees goals or assists. I've seen Chelsea a few times recently and they are woefully toothless all round but particularly in attack.

I just checked Felix's stats, he hasn't scored more than 10 goals or provded more than 5 assists in any season in Spain. He doesn't look the type of player who is going to help turn Chelsea's season arround.

Chelsea have massively overpaid even if it's a short term gamble.

Oh yes, it was more a comment on fees in general than on this player specifically.
