Agreed. During 6 hours in the car today, I tried to find a decent radio station for someone who likes a wide range of music from any time in the last 60 years,
I failed. They all appear to be for very narrow subject matter and/or demographic.

I was driving back for a few hours on the Thursday after Xmas. Scanning through the stations I happened upon Radio 2, It was after 2pm. What witless drivel.
The wife likened it to a 12 year old girl talking to her mate. Very little music, but losts of twaddle sent in by listeners. Came across like the character in the Fast Show " Clouds, aren't they fantastic"
I suspect Radion 2s increased audience share was as much to do with Commercial radio only having the budget to employ thise havng patrents to subsidise them, but no distinctive voice or original thought.
It is making a huge mistake if it thinks dumbing down Radio 2 into some sort of 6th form for Radio one listeners. I suspect it will now slowly begin to lose the specialist music shows in the evening.
the Archers did the sam some years back. Not so much in bringing in younger characters but having scriptwriters who were down wid de cool jive, Daddio. So you had some 70 year old farmer using idioces unheard of outside the school plyground. This was supposed to attract the younger listener. I did not. |  | | |

Radio 2 is now in freefall...haven't listened in the afternoons since they replaced Steve Wright with the personality vaccum that is Scott Mills.
Tbh,even Ken's show can be a slog these days with R2's choice of endless bland "modern" music on their playlist...hoping that Greatest Hits Radio can soon put together a line-up of Ken,Steve Wright & Simon Mayo. |  | | |

Well I just trawled through the comments and surprised that my personal view of Radio 2 which I do listen to is echoed here.... very much agree about Scott Mills , not listened in the afternoon since he started as it suddenly made me realise they have moved on to a younger generation, hopefully KB will now get a chance to play some more of the "old stuff"!ðŸ‘😉 |  | | |

6 Music has an eclectic mix of music, with presenters tending to favour a particular genre, eg Craig Charles and soul, Steve Lemacq and indie. They play old music that you don't tend to hear elsewhere, but the emphasis is on newer music that you don't hear elsewhere, so this may not fit the bill for you. |
Yes, I used to listen to Radio6 Music, and still do occasionally.
I get fed up with all the 'mixes' on Mary Ann Hobbes show, and why on earth did they get rid of Sean Keaveny. His was possibly the best show on radio.
Craig Charles is a bit moronic and very unfunny, although he is obviously better than Scott Mills.
Steve Lamacq's completely false accent completely winds me up. I grew up 2 or 3 miles from him, about 10 years earlier and no-one, absolutely no-one talks like that in Colne Engaine! (Or in London, which is what I imagine he thinks he sounds like) |  | | |
