from McK on recruitment today. I was rather hoping for another midfielder, preferably a big, physical lump that enjoyed kicking people around and generally being a pain in the arris.

Also, was expecting to see several faces disappear on loan, but nothing seems to be happening on that front, what exactly are we going to do with the players we can’t register? U23’s/U21’s games I guess? That’s gonna cost a lot of money on wages for players basically doing nowt, which is disappointing to a degree.

Anyhoo, it is what it is, COYB

All we're missing now is a thread bemoaning the fact we seem to happy signed all the strikers we are going to get and that's a full set?

Sorry, not meaning to be argumentative or disagree particularly either, but literally the last thread I read was bemoaning the fact we seem to have no more defenders likely to come in.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

We're at 23 for the 22-man squad by my reckoning. We were on 20 and have signed three who count towards the total. Assume it someone doesn't move on loan, Ahadme to Burton had appeared the most likely, then one of the injured players will presumably be left out.

Not sure on that one tbh, haven’t checked, but maybe I should have said, not just players registered, but those that seem very unlikely (other than through injury to others) to get a game. I was more thinking of the likes of Ahadme, Edwards, Keogh, Leigh, KVY. However, I also see the benefit of having some backup if needed, we don’t want to be left short again, but you look at that lot just mentioned, plus the medium/long term injured and that’s a whole heap of wages paid out with probably zero return.

I may have completely missed it, but I never realised Edmundson's first name is actually Samuel.

Gonna be honest, I genuinely couldn’t remember what his first name was at all, just got used to saying “Edmundson”, must be my age.

It has been reported that we were simply asking too much money for Ahadme, but do you know if there’s actually been any interest in any of our other players at all? I thought it very surprising not to hear of any clubs being interested in buying/loaning some of our players.

“Zero return” is not really accurate, though. You have to have a squad.

Absolutely, but you’d like the squad to be competitive. I can’t see Edwards starting ahead of anybody, nor KVY now Clarke is in the building, Ahadme just isn’t getting into a match day squad again, Jackson stands a good chance of getting virtually no minutes at all now, Leigh doesn’t appear to be in favour, Keogh shouldn’t be anywhere near the team now, none of those lot are competing for a place now, they’re just spare parts IMO, which isn’t really ideal.

Beat me to it - was going to post the same thing.

He looks like a Samuel actually.

In terms of recruitment, no new players are needed.

This is one of the most, if not, the most expensive League One squads in history, with a plethora of quality cover and back up in all positions.

The board and Ashton have backed McKenna to the hilt and what our squad needs now is :

1. Confidence
2. To go on a prolonged run of wins
3. To play more effective, versatile football that has a plan B and C when necessary.

More than enough money has been thrown at this squad.

We are not short of players. I thought on January 1st a couple of additions would help, especially up front. But too many just upsets squad cohesion.

The manager has been backed and there are plenty of options. It’s up to McKenna to set them up and the players to deliver. No excuses like fog, referees, injuries and bad luck - that’s tinpot in my view.

You are worried that we have too many players now and need to ship some out, but you're also disappointed we're not signing more players. Okay, mate.

Although note that McKenna has completely changed our style of play so it needed money thrown at it if we want to set something up that can take us forward.

I know we lost on Saturday but our goal was outstanding. I can’t believe it hasn’t been talked about more on here. Likewise the move for the Hirst chance. We need a bit more in both boxes - not signings per se but refinement and a bit of luck.

The thing I remember most about the cook era is an overweight wannabe hooligan defending cook to those around him on the terrace at Accrington and not engaging when people around him were saying that the team had no identity (it was just a bunch of expensive signings put on a pitch). KM has spent but he’s creating something - get behind it.

ahadme would definitely benefit from a loan to burton if it can be sorted, keogh has value for the dressing room, so no point loaning him out.

the others are probably only one injury from the bench (or already on it in the case of edwards), so i don't see why we consider getting any of them out.

I assumed that was part of a public negotiation, Burton knowing he can't go elsewhere. Since then they have signed a striker, I seem to recall seeing, but still might not be an end to the matter.
