Just watching his live thing 'Statagem' on Amazon, and I think the character really ought to be retired now. That 'This Time' thing is all very forced, and a shadow of stuff like KMKY, but this live thing is utterly dreadful. It was performed live in the O2, and there are rarely more than a handful of people laughing.

Partridge is one of the greatest comedy characters of the last 25 years, and it's just being rinsed now despite not being funny.

Would not recommend.

That's a shame. I really liked "This Time" but felt that had it been a new character by someone else it would have gained more traction because it suffered from everyone wanting a comfort rehash of the old stuff.

Might swerve Stratagem based on this review then.

The last AP thing I thought was excellent was Mid Morning Matters. I thought the film was decent tbf.

Agreed, watched about half of it and barely raised a smirk. There was something not right about it that I couldn't quite put my finger on. But maybe it was just tired and contrived for the live format.
Shame cos as you said, one of the finest comic creations of recent years

We went to the O2 show, and despite us being huge fans of Coogan and Partridge - it was pretty bland and just a bit boring to be honest. It felt more like a small gig that comedians use to see how jokes land on an audience. Except this was a heaving O2 at pretty high prices and so many gags missed unfortunately.

Still love all his previous work - but it felt like this was put together to pay a tax bill or buy another holiday home.

I remember going to see Alan Partridge and Other Less Successful characters, when he had become a life coach and that was particularly awful (the Partridge part of the show), and then the very funny Mid Morning Matters and Alpha Papa film came after that, so I suppose there may still be life in him yet, even if the current series is poor.
