Thinking about Plymouth's easy run in = Pointless 09:41 - Mar 12 with 2475 viewsCheltenham_Blue

As is wringing your hands, wondering if we will catch them or not.

At the end of the day, Plymouth have an easier run in, but they still have to out perform us in every single game between now and the end of the season. The Plymouth fans are already nervous, and if they go behind against anyone at home park, the crowd will make it difficult.

We might make top two, we might finish third, but either way, the last three seasons, we've finished 10th, 9th, 11th so this will be significant progress, and I'd back us to beat any of the other play off sides, especially over two legs.

They've gone from 10 points ahead of us to 2 points in a few weeks. Even the most optimistic of their fans would see that as a disaster.

If we maintain this form we'll either be promoted or be very ready for the play offs

Excellent summing up. Either way, we’re in great hands with KMac.

The objective viewpoint is that Ipswich are two points behind Plymouth having relentlessly chewed up a big gap by winning 5 consecutive games while Plymouth have dropped points. The narrative becomes stronger on Saturday if we win again and make it 6 regardless of how Plymouth do. If I’m a Plymouth fan I’m very nervous now.

Technically, they don't need to out-perform us, only match our results. Overall, I agree with you though that we're constantly improving, it's obvious from the January additions how the squad has strengthened again. We're playing some lovely football, always looking to attack and there seems a real unity in the squad.

I remember when Gamechanger first took over and Ashton (I think) commented that turning Town around was like turning a tanker, it would take time. Last season the constant slide was stopped and this season has seen clear improvements including victories against teams in the league above us.

They’ll feel as we did in Jan after chucking away a points clear total at the top of the league.

Yep. I just don't see anyway that they won't be Champions.

Referee yesterday was terrible, thought he was looking for a sending off throughout.
Our best ref all season long was Rebecca Welch. Hopefully we'll get her again a couple of times.

Not sure your last statement is right. Sheffield Wednesday are in freakish form currently. Us, Plymouth and Barnsley are all in promotion form over the whole season so far, we're all on over 2ppg. Two teams are likely to end this season very disappointed and probably with a points tally that would normally see them automatically promoted.

Is there really such a thing, as an easy run in?
The "so called" fodder, that we beat before the Bolton game, pulled off a couple of results yesterday...Burton turning over Wycombe is not to be sniffed at, and Accy with a more than credible point, away at Charlton...Chuck Cheltenhams emphatic 3-0 away win at Posh in the mix, and you've got 3 coupon busters right there...
I got a bit annoyed when we'd won 4 on the spin and I was hearing, "yeah, but, it's only against, such and such"..
It may be a cliche, but there really are, no easy games in this division. I'm not buying, that Plymouth have an easy run in. They will be tested by teams that will have a free hit or will be scrapping for something, with the added pressure of an expectant fan base on top. And, the possible distraction of a Wembley final.(Although they'll play that down, for sure. You still have to wonder what goes through a players head, who may never get that opportunity again. It's the pinnacle of a pro career, a Wembly final ,and, imo, it's ridiculous to suggest that not a single one of their players will have half an eye on that one. Nearer the time.)..
We can't control what other teams do.All we can do is look after our own games, one at a time. Its getting to the stage now, where it's just as much about holding your nerve, doing the basics right, and sticking together, as it is about, who's got this player or that player. Or this fixture or that fixture..
We're on a good roll at a good time. If we can get 7s and 8s or more from all of our players, as we did yesterday. Then we'll be alright for top 2, imo.

Their run in looks easy only on paper. Many of the teams they are playing are fighting for league one survival and are classic park the bus teams. They are harder to play against in my opinion, and their draw with Fleetwood showed that. They are leaking points and would have been below us now if they had not have got that dodgy penalty. In their last two away games they have conceded five goals. In our last five games we have scored 14 and let in 0. Our confidence is on a high and they are rattled and it's showing it. They also aren't scoring enough.

I think they will finish below second and miss out on play-offs to Barnsley

I'm an optimist, but I can't see Plymouth's run in being pointless. And even if it is, we'd need more than three points because of Barnsley.
