Colchester fans in trouble again 15:01 - Mar 19 with 3206 viewsHipsterectomy

Didn't their chairman make a public apology to Ipswich earlier this season for their fans? And they had to pay for some damages I think.

I used to like them but they seem to have bred a new generation of idiot fans

I don't think it was so much 'had to' pay for the damage as quickly offered to pay for the damage (before they had to, perhaps.) By which I mean that (chairman) Robbie Cowling was very embarrassed by the fans' behaviour and didn't waste time before trying to put things right as well as he could as quickly as he could. (Unlike many, I like Robbie Cowling, who always seems to me to be respectful to anyone who deserves respect.)

I was at the game yesterday, and heard the offensive chant, without knowing what it was at the time. Colchester certainly do have a group of young supporters who are particularly moronic and unpleasant, and this group swells at certain away games, mostly in London. It's generally agreed that there were about 50 people involved yesterday.

Orient message boards criticise the stewards and police for doing nothing, and I tend to agree with them about the police, especially as about an hour before the game they cleared the designated away pub of about 100 Colchester fans of all ages who were doing absolutely nothing wrong. The pub's reaction was 'oh no, not again, the police do this to us all the time'. My point here is that police seemed to want to throw their weight about before the game but not take action when it would have been welcomed during the game, according to Orient fans who were able to identify the culprits, and report them to stewards who said they'd hand things over to the police. Fans are asked to report offensive chanting, but the police seldom seem to take appropriate action.

As for the game, Orient were foolish to take off El Mizouni (and George Moncur) in the apparent belief that the game was won. Chilvers' equalizer was a beauty, especially as about a minute earlier he'd hit a superb shot with his other foot, which had obviously spooked the defender.

The other thing I take from the day out is how at the end so many opposing players seem to want a natter with Sears. (In this instance, El Mizouni and Drinan obviously, but others too. ) He seems to be exceptionally well liked within the game.

They seem to have a very sensible Chairman and the "Blue and White Army" making a donation to the Justin Edinburgh Foundation is a decent response too.

All clubs have decent and idiot fans (albeit in differing proportions).

Essex for you.

There's a surprisingly large number of Essex folks in Portman Road most home games, seems to be getting a regular thing on here to be having a dig at the County.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

I’ll come clean. That comment was purely to try and get some bites. Disappointed to only get two down votes to be honest!
