If the referee is changed 12:16 - Apr 13 with 2951 viewsTrequartista

then Plymouth would have cause for complaint as he was in charge of one of their games recently (and sent off one of their opponents players)

Banter era rules dictate that the replacement ref would give a late penalty against us. Imagine the scenes.

Yep. Or we later find out his dad is from Plymouth and Auntie Doris lives in Barnsley.

It has to be changed.... the ref himself and the league, as well as the involved clubs, are all now in an impossible situation.

If there is now a controversial incident, he is open to criticism for being biased against ITFC, or over-compensating.

The easiest thing is to swap with another ref... as long as we don't end up with Stroud or Ward...

Does set something of a precedent though as it's a bit of a grey area. It's not a game between the 2 sides, it's not the last game of the season. At what point in the season is it appropriate to make such a consideration? What's deemed to be a divisional rival and what isn't? I think there's no doubt right now Sheff Wed and Ipswich are, but what about Barnsley and Plymouth, would the same apply? Almost needs to be formulaic if it's going to be done at all, otherwise it opens a bit of a can of worms IMO.

The easiest thing would've been for him to not be given this game in the first place.

He's also not telling Lowe anything the EFL don't know about which club he supports.

Who are ultimately the people who have appointed him to this match, putting him in a impossible place.

Just for context, this ( Lowe knowing) was last season for a match at Sunderland....so his allegiance was hardly new news....

He has been gone a while .....
