I don't think any player has proved me more wrong than Burgess. I'd written him off last season - just didn't seem suited to our team at all - but he has been immense for us all season.
It's all very well being part of a defence that keeps a clean sheets against teams that barely get into our half, but he's also stood up to some serious challenges in the last 2 months. |  |

His distribution (short and long) is not too shabby either, and he's happy to step past attackers when he can as well. He's never gonna be a marauding Titus Bramble centre-back (Woolfy probably could!) but he can certainly do a good job for us in the second division. |  |

Most improved? I really like what he’s done and brought this season and yes considering the injury mid season he’s been immense. He has been a significant part of that low goals conceded column. A rock.
Like for all, Championship will be a step up. I hope he makes the leap but defence is an area we will need to consider strengthening. You don’t have to go back far to see the relative/apparent on paper championship experience/quality? we were relegated with.
A few years on for Wolf and a season alongside Burgess, with Clarke, Leif and Walton they should ensure there is more familiarity with this group than for those that managed to relegate us. | |

It’s a good point but we are probably beyond bringing those types through whilst sitting dormant in a squad.
Assume they both have some future in the game, particularly Baggot, probably have to continue out on loans. Expect they both need a successful L1 loan season. Meanwhile we have limited seasoned Championship experience in our defence unit. I don’t know if that’s ok but we feel like a player light. | |

I'm a great believer in players having a skill level and game awareness level that can be improved by good coaching - and KMc and his team are most definitely doing that - so a player can be coached from a 5 to a 7 for example on any number of (in reality unquantifiable) attribute values.
But really that player isn't then a static 7, he's got a range of say 5 to 9. The knack is to keep that player and the rest of the squad performing at 8/9 rather than 5/6. That's the other side of KMc's strength, possibly his greatest strength in my opinion.
Long-winded way of stating the bleeding obvious that it's largely a confidence and mental strength game, and we're well set up with people to manage that, enough I think to keep the current squad functioning close enough to the tops of their bands to do well in the division above. Not that we won't strengthen significantly I suspect. | |

Agree. I think we need another left sided centre back. So we would have options on the right (Woolf and Edmundson) and options on the left (Burgess and newbie). |  |
