New Pitch 10:15 - May 1 with 4284 views | Cheltenham_Blue | Club have mentioned a few times, that 'when we dig down we don't know what we'll find' Does anyone know the ins and outs of this? How deep do they actually need to dig out? Just intrigued.

New Pitch on 11:19 - May 1 by TheMover | Are they going to sell off the existing turf? Plenty good enough for a garden then the buyers could legitimately say they have played on the portman road pitch! |
I’d buy a square of it to transplant into my garden, I know a lot of other people would as well. I’ve seen it done before with things like the penalty spot being slightly higher cost etc. would be surprised if Ashton didn’t see it as a money making opportunity
New Pitch on 12:50 - May 1 with 1033 views | SchancheITFC | Premier pitches are carrying out the work. They’ve done work for us recently at the Uni of Essex. Having spoken to them there has been core samples taken so they have a rough idea what’s under there. They are down to install under soil heating and relay a desi pitch

New Pitch on 10:38 - May 1 by BloomBlue | Correct it was built on an old rubbish tip, which was a positive previous groundsmen have said as it aided natural drainage. Although (apparently) when they built the Pioneer stand the foundations subsequently ruined that and its been a battle since to keep the grass/pitch at a high quality. |
When did the rubbish tip date from? Victorian?

Club looked into it apparently, but the extra time it would take to carefully strip it off, rather than just have at it with a digger ruled it out, as it'll be tight to be ready for the season as it is.

New Pitch on 12:38 - May 1 by PhilTWTD | I assume so, by beating the team we host first in the season by the same scoreline at Wembley. |
I remember that game. The pitch was absolutely immaculate and my Dad, a keen gardener just couldn’t get over how perfect it was. There was a torrential downpour during the match and the referee took the players off the pitch until it passed. My Dad was mortified at the damage that playing on the saturated pitch would have caused!

I wasn't there, but I've been told that but for the work which had taken place that summer the game would have had to have been abandoned. Can't be many matches in the intervening 46 years when the players have been taken off due to torrential rain, so remarkable it should have happened in the first one after the work.
