Agree - have to say I thought they would fall away like last year, but not. But it was that that kept pushing us. Fair play to them and glad it wasnt Wednesday (who won it in February).

That's not always the case the team that finishes top is the best team in the league.I'm old enough to remember the unbelievable season we had in 80/81 Town was streets ahead of Aston Villa beating them three times over the season, and Villa being champions was a travesty. Unlike today ,Plymouth are worthy winners of the league and congrats to them

Arh yes.....but then there HAS to be an exception to prove the rule!!... we simply ran out of players that year.... maybe if the result of the cup game was reversed they wouldn't have got away with relying on 14 players I believe it was.....I hope that sort of situation will never be a barrier under Gamechanger 🤷🏼‍♂️

Bloody well said. The team with the most points are in 95% of circumstances the rightful, deserved champions but they aren't automatically the best team in the league - not unless you thoroughly clip the meaning of the word. And if Spurs finish a point or three ahead of Brighton this season that will be a travesty, based on the disgraceful officiating in their 6-pt swing game and the clear qualitative difference between the sides over most of the campaign. I can think of a few occasions in my lifetime when the best (most impressive, dominant, talented and feared) team in the league were a whisker less effective than another at accumulating points.

I have mixed feelings about our season because, putting my neutral hat on for a moment, it's hard to ignore GD, XG and the many other performance metrics available to fans in this internet age. They all suggest a level of superiority for the Town that could, in the debating halls at least, offset a difference of 3 points in the final standings when it comes to any 'best team' discussion. Putting my ITFC cap back on though, I didn't see enough from us against Plymouth on either showing and I've been very impressed by their attacking play in the handful of occasions I've seen them. They've been whooped a few times by L1 outfits this year, again off-putting with the neutral cap on, when you compare this to our four 1-goal defeats - all of which saw us even having the better of the less important match stats. Yet they've demonstrated their bouncebackability on every occasion.

Ultimately I'd concede the argument: threshold not met to successfully challenge the default position: best team won the league. I think not winning may be more useful in the bigger picture, as we still need reinforcements to compete next season and reminders like Fleetwood/Cheltenham may help focus minds over the summer. A demolition of Fleetwood today could have gone some way to signalling the squad is already where it needs to be, given all we've achieved these past two+ months.
