Summer ins and outs 12:49 - May 23 with 2854 viewsxrayspecs

Assuming Luongo and Aluko sign their new deals, Town will have 23 senior players next season, plus Cam Humphreys who still counts as an U21. This does not include any of our players who spent last season out on loan - Harper, Ahadme, Piggott, El Miz, Nbada and Baggott.

The squad limit next season is 25 senior players (U21 Prem loanees would counts as a senior player).

I would expect us to look for a replacement for Keogh and add two forwards as a minimum, so I would anticipate some currently under contract players will not make our 25 man squad.

23 players and Freddie the only proper CF.
If I was Evans,Jackson,Harness and probably even Edwards I'd be feeling a bit nervous!
I'm surprised we've offered Aluko a new deal to take up a squad place , obviously has loads of Champ experience and if Mckenna wants him I'm happy

Harper and Piggot both out somewhere, maybe on loan. Not sure how long Harper has on his contract.

El Miz similar.

Ahadme might be seen as warranting a loan and getting a full season under his belt somewhere but cod also be useful makeweight in an possible dealings with L1 clubs.

Ndaba and Baggot one would imagine on loan again but could see Corrie maybe getting sold, feel he struggled a bit last year for his game time.... would be a shame as he really looked like a player who could kick on

Poll: Will Phil ever confirm we are actually close on a signing ever again

Looking at our transfer business last season, get the impression that we're no longer in the market for players who will be here to make up the squad numbers, but will be happy to wait it out until targets who are an upgrade of what we already have become available.

Rough list of who "replaced" who - sure others will disagree (and as I said, rough )

Leif Davis - Matt Penney
Greg Leigh - Myles Kenlock
Freddie Ladapo - James Norwood
Tyreece John Jules - Joe Pigott
Gassan Ahadme - Tyreece Simpson
Dominic Ball - Tom Carroll
Panutche Camara - Rekeem Harper
Marcus Harness - Armando Dobra
Richard Keogh - Corrie Ndaba
Harry Clarke - KVY
George Hirst - TJJ (injury)
Massimo Luongo - Evans / Ball (injuries)
Nathan Broadhead - think this is the only one you'd look at as a "luxury" signing...plenty of cover in that position with Harness, Chaplin, Aluko and Edwards, but too good an opportunity and player to pass up.

Does roughly work out as 1 in, 1 out, so expect more of the same - can't see us ripping up a squad that did so well this season without giving nearly all the players a shot at the Championship.

Poll: My morning poo-poo took 3 flushes to clear. Who do I call?

There's got to be a few additions

Whilst our run was great. It was pretty much unchanged throughout. When broadhead couldn't start. We drew that game

Before the likes of luongo. Broadhead and Hirst got going we struggled for 12 weeks before that.

We need imo
Better cover for broadhead
Better cover in midfield and competition for luongo and morsy
Better cover and competition for Burns
Cover and competition for Chaplin
Striker x 2

I find myself not disagreeing with you :) However I’m not currently seeing turnover of 6 in one go in the 22 named squad, could happen but it could be over a window or 2. 2-3 is my guess in this window, not including resigning Luongo. It would be a big change to a squad seeking use momentum built if it were 6. Time will tell.

Wouldn’t it be 20 qualifying excluding goalkeepers?

Goalkeeper exemption doesn't apply to Championship

Pretty sure there will be more than 2-3.

The likes of El Miz would be sold I would imagine. Could see a surprise departure too.

Ideally, at least one quality signing in the TJJ mold, if not TJJ.. Someone who is versatile enough to cover the 9 and 10 positions.... I agree with the areas you suggest could use some reinforcement. But I can see KM looking for 3 maybe 4, quality, versatile players, rather than 5 or 6 specialists. Perhaps an out and out 9 being the exception.
Think that's been a real plus in Clarke signing. Allows KM to shuffle the pack, in game, more freely. And multiplies the bench options, too.

Apologies yes, understand that. I was referring to the current assumed squad numbers based on what is left of the 22 from this season without the GKs

The more I think about it, the more I sense we will look for someone other than TJJ to cover that 9/10 hybrid role in the squad. The injury situation makes it a bit of a risk and the team has actually changed quite a bit since he was last in it... I really like TJJ but just wonder if there are better suited options out there

Indeed, one or two experienced players could be on their way out, largely because we can find better. I wouldn't be surprised or distressed if we lost Evans, Burgess, Edmundson, Harness or Jackson.

This is how I got to the current 20 ex GKs or 22 with GKs

Itfc

Walton (Ex)
Woolfenden, Burgess
Clarke, Davis
Luongo, Morsy
Burns, Chaplin, Broadhead

Squad rotation and finishers,

Vlad (Ex)
Edmundson,
Donacien, Leigh
Evans, Ball, Camera,
Edwards, Aluko, Harness
Jackson, Ladapo

Humphries (homeU21), Chirewa (homeU21)

20+2GK
22 (limit 25)

Without any further outs, we have space for a homeU21 GK as third GK plus 3 outfield players or 2 additional outfield players if we were to have an experienced third GK like Coleman situ.

That currently says,

LCB - big question here is Baggot or Ndaba because an experienced head would block those.
CMd
Striker

This then says, unless we want further higher quality additions, it’s a transition season, less outs this window unless with business we do limit’s opportunities for certain players and they want more games, like midfield. That could free up 1 space for a new 10 etc.
