You've got the Thrasher and the Raven over Ravenswood that I never count for some reason. Railway I think is closed again, Lattice Barn is closing or already closed (may be a stretch to Lattice Barn is East) |
Lattice Barn is about to re-open I believe

I think the gastro guys name was Ben, nice bloke who liked his old classic cars, think he was a friend of Scotty I had a meal in their once and it was very good, never gonna be a success though. |
I always wondered if those places ever made money really. Maybe in the 80s/90s communities used their locals boozer a lot more after work and overheads were lower. A lot of pubs that side of the town centre.

Agree with that. Sky nightmare: entitled Everton replaced by Luton. Everton are an ugly, awful team and for me have always been an irritating, smug, ugly club. Sadness for my brother in law and family who are all Leicester and for my golfing chum who is Leeds - though the latter is funny. Looking forward to next season!

Racecourse had its moments, especially if Linford had one of his disco's on with his 6ft speakers. Racecourse lived in racial harmony

I guess pubs were pubs, didn’t have to do food, one person behind the bar, fairly low overheads.

Interesting! Golf was always bad, with the amount of population around it and not many other pubs in walking distance it should have been a goldmine.

Ha! Not sure why I forgot to mention them two. I think my definition of East Ips is basically Nacton/Gainsborough up to Derby Road train station one way and the hospital the other.

I had a Sunday lunch in The Hind a few months back. We pushed the Mother in Law from Jamie Caan house. Anyway, we were seated in the 'dining' side, about 3 tables and the assorted tracksuits/staffy crowd. She was oblivious, then a band set up, started a covers set, bit off putting while lunching, then the smoke machine goes off! We opened the doors, ate up before she choked on the vapours! All very Pheonix Nights!

I am certain some readers of this post will remember the Rushmere Falcon, those that don't it was just a little way past the Towen training ground heading away from Ipswich ... That was a prime example of how on earth did a pub stay open so long..Not sure when it closed early 90's ? I only found it when looking for a quiet little clandestine bolt hole ,it was pretty isolated not like some pubs that have closed in built up areas....Sadly it closed before food bacame a thing in pubs especially out of town ones and if it had held on a for a few more years it may well have become a little gold mine. Talking of goldmines or potential ones mentioned earlier in regards to the Golf,I was always amazed how it wasn't fulfilling that potential back in the late 90's early nougties....I think it is now though ?

It was still going in the late 90s. I had a friend who lived next door to it.

I swear someone told me, might have even been my old man that the Rushmore Falcon used to have a big mid week night that people used to go to back in the day. Doesn’t surprise me pubs struggle in towns and smaller cities that don’t have much of a young scene. I assume it’s more blue collar folk that keep the Town pubs going (might be a generalization). Whereas in cities with a big student population or a large amount of Gen Z, Millennials that work in a concentrated area it’s a lot different.
