Radio Suffolk deal 09:37 - Jul 24 with 1901 viewsThe_Flashing_Smile

Would be great if it were integrated into Town TV so you could choose either the club's commentator or Brenner on a match day. Can't see it happening, but if they want to advertise to more fans then that would be a way to do it (they won't be advertising to fans who just stick with the old fashioned radio). Plus they'd be able to get stats showing which commentators are most popular with supporters. Not trying to do the club's guy out of a job but why did they even need to employ their own when they had a perfectly good set up using Radio Suffolk?

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Robins TV offers BBC Radio Bristol commentary but I'm not holding out much hope.

Whether it's integrated into Town TV or not I don't have much of an opinion on, but one thing that should certainly be protected IMO is the BBC coverage of games on the local radio. There's a lot of fans where it's the main touch point into the club and will have followed for decades through the radio. Limiting that (like Peterborough have recently done which went down terribly) would be a real shame for so many people who perhaps can't afford to pay for a separate subscription. If the club is serious about the community then that's something that really needs to be considered.

The Radio Suffolk commentary is absolutely streets ahead of the in-house one but unfortunately won't be integrated as they want to advertise the club's own stuff which RS won't be able to do, and they themselves will be advertising RS stuff that the club won't want.

If anything there's a concern that they ultimately buy the rights to Town commentary outright and make it so the only way to listen is to subscribe to TownTV.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Quite agree. My 94yr old uncle ( whose been a Town fan for over 75yrs can’t listen to games now . He used to tune in on his radio . It’s all about making m8ney. That’s the truth of the matter…..

Absolutely, and it also has to be borne in mind that matchday tickets at home will be at a premium.

My foolishness, but it never occurred to me that the BBC had to pay to cover games. I assumed clubs just wanted their coverage, and commentary was just an extension of general local news about the club. In the Radio Orwell days, was there no BBC coverage?

Why can’t he? Is the story not that they’ve extended the deal to continue broadcasting radio coverage of all games?

I prefer the RS commentary, but can understand why club want to push their coverage on Town TV and that’s fair enough

What I’ll never get is that they sell Audio Passes to the game and just pump the video commentary down that feed - they are two totally different disciplines and not fair on anybody to have it paid for as an audio service when it simply isn’t

They wouldn't be able to advertise through the audio, but if they're in charge of the visuals they can advertise that way (i.e. "Great new club shop offers, click here.")
If they integrated Radio Suffolk into Town TV then Radio Suffolk listeners listening via the internet rather than the wireless will see those ads. Otherwise, they won't. So from a financial POV it makes sense to integrate and reach more people.

I don't remember the in-house commentary team actually advertising anything anyway, TBH.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Advertising as in the service itself, the commentator regularly made reference to upcoming games available to purchase on iFollow which obviously RS wouldn't do. Likewise, RS would say things like 'remember to tune in on Thursday evening where we'll be playing our interview with...' which obviously the club wouldn't want/need to happen. More frequent listeners will be able to confirm or deny but pretty sure the iFollow commentator would mention shirts being on sale in the club shop etc. as well.

The club would want what you suggest to reach audio listeners as well which is why it's, sadly, highly unlikely for the RS feed to be integrated again.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

I think there's quite a difference between a radio and a t/v commentaries approach.
