Outlook is a truly wonderful e-mail product (n/t) on 16:33 - Jul 24 with 1890 views | J2BLUE | It's locked me out of an email address that I rarely use to send emails and won't let me back in because I can't confirm enough details about the last emails I sent. You can't speak to a person so all you can do is constantly go through the automated process. Insane.

So because you were too dumb to keep important passwords in a password safe, that's Microsoft's fault?

They locked me out because someone else tried to sign in. Now they want additional info for me to prove it's my account. Using the same app on the same device should be their first clue.

Dont you have MFA set up? Normally you would get a notification if an unkown device is trying to sign in to your account, and you just either accept it or deny it. They generally wouldnt lock you out, unless you ignored the notifications. You can usually get your account unlocked by having a security code sent to your device. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-billing/unlock-your-microsoft-accoun

I thought I had an email on there but clearly not. This is the message I get: We have detected unusual activity on your Microsoft account [email]@hotmail.com, or believe your credentials are at risk. For your security and to ensure that only you have access to your account, we will ask you to verify your identity and change your password. They offer to text a code to a mobile number I haven't had for years. When I can't do that it makes me go through the automated process. Not denying it's my fault but it seems impossible to get back in if you use the account infrequently and can't remember the subject lines or emails and the precise people you have emailed.

Yeah you're fooked then. I guess Outlook isnt for you. If you only use the account infrequently then no big deal. Just create a new one.

Outlook is a truly wonderful e-mail product (n/t) on 17:48 - Jul 24 with 1678 views | Swansea_Blue | The whole Microsoft 360 thing is wizardry. I keep get reminders saying stuff like “oi knobhead, you said you’d email Barry in accounts about an invoice and you STILL haven’t done it!’. It’s basically voodoo by code and a lifesaver several times a week.

TWTD has been banned by Outlook, and I think some kind words from us will help Gav send his emails to Outlook users.

Don't you have 2-factor authentication? I got dozens of notifications on my alt email (2nd factor) saying if it wasn't me, don't worry, someone's typed my hotmail.com acct. "by accident". After about 50 I contacted Outlook who were very helpful. There'd been 140 attempts to hack my acct. in 3-4 weeks (edit - everywhere from the USA to Hong Kong, via Spain & S. Africa). I had to create a false cover address to stop the hacking attempts. That hasn't stopoped the 100+ spam emails daily, about 75% of which are phishing. [Post edited 3 Sep 2023 22:32]

I do now i'm back in. It was a rarely used account that had an old mobile number on there. They locked me out and the only way to get back in was to give them details of recently sent emails including exact subject titles. Now i'm back in I have hopefully ensured it does not happen again.

If your details are available on the dark web you can check here - https://haveibeenpwned.com/ Not a lot you can do about it if they are other than changing passwords and enabling multi factor authentication everywhere you can. I use a unique password for every site, normally with a sort of reference to the site in question so I can tell where any compromises may have come from.

Outlook is a truly wonderful e-mail product (n/t) on 07:59 - Sep 4 with 728 views | DJR | I use eM Client which I think is pretty similar. I switched to it when, for a time, I ceased to have access to Outlook, and have stuck with it ever since.
