12 behind at the end of the day and not enough time to bat and lost a wicket. We let Murphy score too easily but that's not a bad day really.

Once again, highlights perhaps if our batsmen didn’t throw their wickets away cheaply then we could be in a far stronger position. Let’s not forget, the Aussies dropped 5 catches too.

At close yesterday I'd have taken ending today being 12 behind. Game is basically tied. Feel like if the run out had gone our way rather than theirs then we'd have come out with a lead of 50 or so and been in pole position. It's basically a one innings shoot out now.

I do feel that benefits us, but maybe that’s the rose tinted glasses talking.

Yeah they did, but our approach puts them under pressure and causes those dropped catches. I though they would really put us to the sword this series, but our batting has left them completely rattled and looking lost at times.

If we'd have played 'traditional' test cricket all series we'd have been 3-0 down, we don't have great test players so we're playing to the strengths we have and therefore are punching above our weight.

My only frustration, having been there today and back tomorrow, is why the bloody hell we dont just bowl at the stumps when the tail enders are in.

I thought both sides looked fatigued today.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

The fact you mention our batting has had them rattled at times is key, unfortunately when it’s mattered that’s when it’s cost us. There really isn’t much between the two sides, although the Aussies have won those important sessions and that’s tipped the scales in their favour. I’m not asking us to play traditional test match cricket, I’m just asking them to adapt at key times with our batting, just rein it in at times. Perhaps the issue we have, we have too many batsmen that play in the same manner? Look at our first innings if a few of them like Root, Stokes and Bairstow had played in a more measure manner, then the Aussies would still be behind the ball game as we’d have posted a total in excess of 300 and the pressure would be firmly on the Aussies.

I completely agree with you about the bowling at the tailenders, but that’s not down to Bazball we’ve adopted this approach for years it seems. I wonder if the penny might drop at some point?! Pigs might fly, whomever is in charge the approach seems the same, strange really. Having so many test matches in such a short space of time was eventually going to have a physical and mental impact, let’s not forget the Aussies had that one off test against India in the World Test Championship. That’s a lot of high intensity top level cricket. One of the draw backs from our approach, our bowlers don’t get that much rest. I noticed this morning, we’ve bowled more than 1400 balls than the Aussies during this series, that will have an impact too.
