In recent months I’ve heard how the defenders are not good enough, how we need to clear out the likes of Harness, that we need this player or that. As somebody who stopped attending games during the Hurst period, my view was a tv highlights or Sky full match one. Not this season. I have a ST. Not the best seat in the house, but I was there. This is my summary:

Portman Road is cleaner, tidier, smarter and busier than when I was last there. People everywhere. Boy does it still require a lot of work, but looking at the detail of the ground, they’re really working on it. The pitch is magnificent. The Wendy House is a bit, well wendyish but the cladding is an improvement.

The atmosphere? Under McCarthy at the end and Hurst it became a bit like going to the dentist. You hoped for the best but felt it might be painful. Not now. You can taste the optimism. You can feel how connected the crowd are to the players. It was lovely to see.

Ipswich are a smashing team now and will only improve. If Stoke had lost 4-0, they couldn’t have complained. We were better than them in all aspects bar bullying the ref.

The players: Lladky. Clean sheet, did his job. His messing about with the ball at his feet worried me but overall, he was good. Woolfenden: really good. He’s going to be a top centre half. Burgess: he’s is not as good as Woolfy, but he’s big, strong and brave. Got a bit out of position now and again, but he’ll improve. Love his attitude and I’d hate to see him replaced unless by an experienced PL level player. Burns? Worked them over. Final ball a bit iffy sometimes but he was a handful. Davis: fabulous player which is why they kicked him around. Donacien: good defender. Big and hard to get by. Not the best going forward but I hope we keep him. He’s got a great attitude.

Morsy MoM. Says it all. Luongo, excellent. Broadhead did some good things but was exhausted when subbed. So was Hirst who worked hard but struggled to get free of the CHs. Mind you, he nearly scored just before HT. Chaplin: a pest of a player. Good control and going to score a lot of goals this season.

Harness: I hear he’s not good enough. I think he is. He opened Stoke up time after time and kept the ball well. Jackson: he scored and his pace troubled them. That pace was the last thing the Stoke donkeys needed to see. Hutchinson: small, got in some good positions, Stoke had to mark him. He needs time but clearly has talent.

The ref: weak. Stoke: big, physical but painfully limited. McKenna’s tactics: spot on.

In conclusion, so much to like and to look forward to. Would a signing or two help? Yes, but only if they fit what KM wants. Carlos Kickaball pension topper uppers, journeymen, fading disinterested PL players, players with attitude problems need not apply.

This is the best of times. The supporters care about the club, the players and staff care about the club. They play an exciting, deadly style of football. When we lose, the moaners, hand wringers and hater will be out, but that’s their problem. Personally, I love what my club are doing.

Thank you for this. I couldn't go today so this is everything I wanted to hear. It really does seem and feel as though the tanker has turned at last.

I got my football fix from watching Didz and his Notts team mates come from behind twice to take three points off Hurst and sidekick Doig so it's been an excellent football day all round!

Edit: downvoted in error - fat fingers!

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Well said

Most encouraging thing for me is our top 3 in Hirst, Broadhead & Chappers were not at the top of their game today but always a threat and work tirelessly.

And yet we were still looking like the most likely to score.

Absolutely spot on 👍

This is why we haven't made the signings we are after. There is no point just getting someone in. Get in someone at least as good as our first choice or don't bother. There is no point with new faces for new faces sake. If we can't get the right players at the moment we will bide our time until we can. And in the meantime what we have are perfectly good enough to build a very solid foundation.

All players are raising their games because every squad player (bar one) wants to be on this journey

Its great to see

We can all see what is happening here, important thing is to keep humble and continue to work hard

That's a really good all round summary. Although if I was being picky, I would say you've been a tad unfair on Burns. I thought his distribution was generally excellent today, probably one of the best I have seen from him. È

Yeah, you are right. I just felt he got into some great positions, burned his marker, but his final ball was sometimes a bit off.

But yes, I’m being too picky. I was sitting close to a lot of stuff he did first half and their player (Stevens?) resorted to a lot of unpunished fouling to hang on.

Edwards.

"Every squad player". Edwards is leaving isn't he? Although I suppose technically he is still part of the squad. I also don't think it is because he wasn't trying but rather it simply hasn't worked out for him here for whatever reasons.
