Just read Pearson say they won’t be selling anyone today (as well as bringing anyone in), but he’s got 12 months left on his deal and no sign of him signing a new one, so they may well be tempted to cash in for the right offer.

With the limited budget that we will likely have to spend smartly and wisely, improving the starting XI and bringing someone in whose value could rocket, spending a significant fee on a player at 26 already, likely to be about a similar level to Woolfy and in the same position would make zero sense. Were a random Championship defender to be posted about who was left-sided then maybe we could get excited.

Don't get this obsession with having a left footed center half at LCB. It would be nice but John Terry was one of the best LCBs of all time arguably and certainly of the PL era. Would rather just get the best CB possible rather than focus only on lefties. [Post edited 1 Sep 2023 13:41]

I don't think it's a massive issue in most systems. But with the amount of possession we would like to have and the way we move the ball across the back line and into feet it is extremely helpful to have a left footed player comfortable enough to move it on first time rather than taking an extra touch. Edmundson looks a walking disaster on the left and like he's going to gift a goal every time he has the ball at his feet, whereas he's largely looked solid when he's played on the right.

Left footers on the left right footers on the right simply most defenders are more comftable that way but there are always exceptions of course .

Considering the way we play, and that we play out from the back, I think a left footed left centre back is probably more required for balance and possession than anything

And John Terry played in teams that just lump it forward? Vidic and Ferdinand spring to mind also.

Edmundson has looked a disaster all season. He was on the right at Reading and at Colchester in pre season when he made a couple of howlers. I wouldn't use Edmundson as a benchmark in this exercise!
