If our current progress continues until the New Year and come January we are still very likely to win promotion, what are the players that we should be targeting in the next transfer window?

What kind of budgets have clubs in similar positions as us in the past few years had for the upcoming transfer window?

I don’t think we’re in a position to do remotely well in the PL at the moment and I would guess that on the current side we put out we would be fighting relegation for the entire season if we go up, simply because of the massive difference in difficulty between the Championship and the PL.

“What players” very good question, but I think at this point in time & what we have all seen from our management team it’s more than likely a plan is in place with targets identified etc.
Nothing is left to chance now, we are as professionally run as any body in this league & probably the one above for the first time in decades, if it happens & I seriously hope it does, just stand back & admire what hard work got us here. Ashton & Co know their collective way around COYB.

Think we will definitely look to add 3/4 players in January, whether we get who we want will be the issue.

Massively better chance of getting who we want in January compared to the summer window just gone.

Isn’t squad size limits the issue? Who do we get rid of or un-register to bring 3 or 4 new players? Aluko and Evans the obvious ones, I guess

Possibly JD as well, he looks a little way down the pecking order now. Someone like Ball might move on if someone comes in for him, Ladapo possibly as well if we can sign a replacement. I think there will be movement in and out.

Wonder if Ball’s versatility will be enough to keep him around. He of course may be fed up at not playing and want out anyway. Going to be an intersting January window.

Ball doesn't strike me as the sort to get a bit testi if he's not playing. Probably end of season is when he'll move on but if we got a January offer it might work for all parties.to let him go.

I think it's the Town Fan in me. But my expectations in the Jan window are fairly low. As much as we know, strengthening from a position of strength, is the way to go.. I don't want to build hopes of a huge window, like last January. And then feel disappointed...
We've seen how difficult a job it is to get the right players in. I guess some of us are hoping that the slowish Summer window, involved some groundwork toward the next window?
I do have faith in the effort they'll make to try and get some recruitment done. But we're not a L1 side trying to attract Championship ready players, this time round.. If we spend anything, they need to be potentially ready for a step up to Prem' level. These players will be expensive with lots of suitors.. So I'm leaning towards a couple of loans coming in.. If we can make room , by way of releasing/loaning or omitting a player or two from the squad..
No point really remotely thinking about what we might need in the league above... We're miles away from that , atm..... Gimme a 30pt gap with ten to play, first..( As mentioned, its the Town Fan in me )

We first have to get to the Prem and if we continue to progress as we are until the window, do we really need to acquire anyone new at all in January and tamper with a still-record-breaking side?

It's always better to strengthen from a position of strength.

I assume Evans will be one who will go, along with Donacien if he gets offered more regular football.

That frees up two spaces without weakening the main 18 players at all.

Yeah I think they're the obvious 2 who could make room for additions, especially as Evans isn't likely to be fit any time soon. He's almost certainly played his last game for us.

Could be 1 or 2 transfers out, JD and Ball as mentioned are out of contract at the end of the season and will no doubt be attracted by a 2-3 year deal elsewhere.

I think we could create the wiggle room, I guess the challenge will be sticking within FFP. Do you roll the dice in the hope it gets us over the line and we then have all the financial headroom that promotion brings? But if we didn't go up it might put us in a sticky spot.

Specifically, a couple of players I would have my eye on are:

Amad Diallo. Will depend on what United want to do with him, and whether ETH is still there I guess. But wouldn't rule him out of a Championship loan again for the 2nd half of the season. Maybe KM and Williams can pull some strings.

Cashin. Been linked with a move out of Derby for a while, it might be an opportunity to do it at the right price, especially if they're outside the playoff places. I quite rate him, although with Burgess, Woolfy, Tuanzebe and Edmundson I'm not sure it's a position we would strengthen without a departure.

Shayne Lavery. I reckon he could be prized off Blackpool for <1m. Fit again, scoring goals again, Championship experience, still under 25, ex PL academy. Would've thought we would be attractive to him especially working with fellow NI man KM. He's quality too, bit of a poor mans Rooney but I would have him here in a heartbeat. Would love to see what KM's team could do with him.

2 spaces… a no.9 and a central mid to cover Morsy/Mass.

The only Muff in Town.

Aluko could just have his contract changed to be a coach, as seems that’s the way he’s used these days.

We can get rid of that Sheeran (17). Two years in the squad, not played a game, even for the U21s.

Isn't that what Scarlett and Taylor were brought in for? Are we really going to push Taylor further down the pecking order?
