How much would an advert on sky cost during half time of Arsenal v Tottenham or Man. Utd v Liverpool. Like I say, I am all for a ban on gambling adverts, or a least a massive reduction, but sky and gambling companies are big players. I would love there to be less money in football, but as the Saudi league proves, it ain't going to happen any time soon. Unfortunately. An unemployed 32 year old Goalkeeper is currently demanding £300,000 a week. Crazy times, but reality.

The way the market works is that the advert costs that because the companies are willing and able to pay it. If there are fewer companies competing and they pay less, there is less money and fewer unemployed goalkeepers able to command anything close to £300K. Ultimately you seem to be making some odd argument against banning the ads that is a non-argument.

I think gambling adverts should be banned or greatly reduced. I think there should be far less money in football. I think top players should be paid less. I am not arguing with anyone, just being realistic.

People need to learn to read what you are saying. The fact someone replies that salaries for the chiefs will go down entirely proves your point. In an ideal world gambling ads would be banned before 10pm but most people in power in football will fight it. Just to be clear, i'm not suggesting people do not push for a ban.

Let’s kick gambling ads out of football on 19:12 - Nov 19 with 1672 views | Mark | I applaud much of the work ITFC does to promote good mental health, but was disappointed to see an animated roulette wheel on the pitchside adverts recently during a match which somewhat undermines the message. It is far worse at many clubs, and watching some matches we are under a bombardment of gamling adverts throughout the games. Children are watching these! It isn't right. As others have written, having so much money in the game does not make it better. The result of these gambling ads is simply that players get even crazier wages.

I think it was MK's phraseology that it wasn't possible when what he clearly meant was that football chiefs will be opposed to it. It clearly is possible as demonstrated by the situations earlier in the thread. To be clear, we did read what he put, just not what he meant instead!

Let’s kick gambling ads out of football on 07:06 - Nov 19 by LegendofthePhoenix | AS Badger has pointed out above, football has become far worse as more money has come in. On day 1 of the season, how many teams stand a realistic chance of winning the PL? How many teams will be in the relegation battle? It's all too predictable, same with the promotion contenders who have parachute payments. We desperately need a reset. The vast majority of clubs obviously aren't going to vote for a ban on advertising gambling as it will reduce TV money. The evidence of the huge harm it does to society is irrefutable. This needs the government to intervene, a government with a degree of conscience. Ban gambling advertising - on not just shirts, on sleeves, hoardings, in the ad breaks on TV, of the EFL - a total ban like smoking. Money for Sky/BT etc will plummet. The money from TV will therefore plummet. Player wages, PL and EFL chiefs salaries will plummet. And the game, and society, will benefit. Edit: highest paid person in the UK - Denise Coates, CEO of Bet 365. She made £265M last year. Just think about that. [Post edited 19 Nov 2023 7:09]

Talking about gambling advertising generally, not just in football, what also makes my blood boil is the sheer hypocrisy of bookies who make long TV ads about gambling responsibly & sensibly, taking breaks etc. - and who then flood my junk/inbox with 50-75 emails daily inviting me to take up my "free spins", "400% boosted winnings" "Spin to win" "Start my online gaming adventure" etc. Some of them spam 8 of the same thing in 2 minutes. I used to bet £1 each way on a few horses over 4 years ago, but have never ever bet on any bookie's 'casino' section. Pretty bloody outrageous tactics.

I suspect a few well worded emails/letters would go down well knowing those running the club these days. When I get a spare hour or two I will write something.
