So has BlueAs been promoted or fired? 13:28 - Dec 4 with 1297 viewsbluelagos

Think it was today he was chatting with the boss...

TWTD Hive Advice : How should I approach my boss re. promotion by blueasfook 1 Dec 2023 15:26
TWTD advice needed...

I have been feeling a bit unhappy in my job last few months. Have been at my current company about 5.5 years and always had good performance scores etc. In my year end feedback, a colleague I work with has recommended me for promotion, but my boss seems reticent. I've mentioned that I would like to go for promotion in the past, but it just seems to be ignored. I have booked a 1:1 with him for monday as it's come to a point where I have decided to leave if I don't get promoted soon. I had the offer of a more senior role at another company recently but turned it down - which I kind of regret now. How should I best approach it? I don't want to lay down ultimatums, but should I be frank and just say how I am feeling?

Depends when he was having a chat with the boss... whether during the busy breakfast shift, or waited until the changeover to the lunchtime menu had taken place...

Well seeing as you ask...

I got fired lol. Nah, my chat was quite productive, going to set some objectives for next year and if I achieve those, I can be put forward for promotion. But to be honest, if a senior role comes along in the meantime I might well take it without having to jump though hoops.

Nice one. Does that get you an extra star on the badge?

That just sounds like a roundabout way of saying no tbh.

It's almost always easier to move for more money/seniority than it is to get it where you are. Budgets are higher for recruitment than retention.
