Why not? It's not like they're going into the kitchen.

I get pee'd off by the whole out-moded, forelock-tugging, nature of the honours system in general.

And not least my continued absence from the various lists.

Mind you a lot of people who do good charitable works get one

I was probably unfair on the dogs, when the chief culprit is the owner of said creature

Other pubs with limited culinary abilities are available.

My cousin went to a steak night in a pub in Bury St Edmunds a few years ago. She ordered a sirloin, medium rare.

A few minutes later the waiter came back and asked 'Is well-done alright? We haven't got any mediums left.'

Perhaps your cousin should suggested putting the steak in the microwave for minus 2 minutes wallah changes well done steak into rare

So your cousin was only a 25 minute drive from Bennys BBQ and chipper on Haverhill High Street and rather a battered sausage and greasy chips he/she choose to have a steak dinner in a Bury pub?
Could they possibly be lacking in taste and culture Factors?

Tim Martin’s business offers low prices for consumers and preserves historic buildings for the community. As such he’s probably more deserving of a gong than most other recipients.

Spoons is about the only place you can sit in with a hot meal + a pint & get change of a tenner. Refill coffee for £1.50. As said good, sensitive restoration of heritage buildings too

Is it perfect? No. I disagree with many of Tim's views. But much of the Spoons criticism is unwarranted.

He created a business that employs over 43,000 people and pays over £660m tax every year.

That seems like a worthy thing?

Agree with this.

This thread has also inspired a lunchtime trip to Spoons, so win win.

Hard to argue with this.
I'm not a fan of the bloke, but as far as you may or may not agree with the honours system, he seems as worthy as most.
