Classic Budgie! 09:54 - Jan 3 with 6738 views | NthQldITFC | 'I disagree with this Ricardo. As a Norwich fan over the last 70 years you’ve probably seen the most promotions and relegations of any team in English football. You’ve seen us lift 5 trophies by my count which is more than probably 75% of the clubs in those years. We hold the record for most promotions and relegations too and from the Prem. We’ve won at Wembley twice, beaten Bayern away, how many other clubs of our size can claim the same? ' https://forum.pinkun.com/index.php?/topic/155019-the-club-is-run-governed-and-or

Some of these trophies were also played out between 2 teams (already at finals stage) Some of the above trophies will have been lost in the fire of 1984. There may be more friendly tournaments that have been won or competitions that didn't come up in my research. I know Norwich toured the USA, Norway, Sweden, Malaysia, China, - but I can't find any evidence of trophies related to the tours. It's very easy for us to laugh at some of their trophies but the fact is that Norwich should be commended for the amount of charity work they have done over the years. They've also introduced trophies such as the Friendship Trophy to represent the importance of friendship over hostility. They have done more for charity and awareness campaigns than most teams in any league. In fact, there are a multitude of examples where Norwich have played one-off Charity matches (either in pre season or after) to support worthy causes. Of course- we have done the same so both clubs should be rightly commended. I still don't like them regardless. [Post edited 28 Apr 2024 6:43]

Indeed. It was before my time, but it counts in the same way that the Full Members Cup or the Anglo-Italian Cup do, because they were competed for during the regular football season. I don’t consider it a major achievement on Town’s part, but given our generally poor record against Norwich in Cup games, it’s nice that we beat them when there was an actual trophy as the prize for winning over the two matches.

Before my time also, but sounds like it was a good competition with 16 top sides outside the European places every year. In some respects a bigger achievement than the Norwich League Cup 1962 win, as none of the top teams took part that year. Also saw that Norwich won the Norwich Hospital Charity Cup. Don't know much about that competition but Tottenham are previous winners of the trophy. They also win the Norfolk Hire Senior Cup.

If Norwich had won the Texaco Cup, they'd be banging on about it to this day. Shows the difference (many of our supporters aren't even aware that we won it). When they won the League Cup in 1962, it was a radically reduced competition. Worth mentioning as well that there were byes in the competition in 62 as people were unsure how to organise it (so some teams were drawn randomly as byes). Norwich won the trophy through: 1st Round: Chesterfield 2nd Round: Lincoln City 3rd Round: Middlesbrough 4th Round: Bye Quarter Final: Sunderland Semi Final: Blackpool Final: Rochdale

Interesting that the crowd was less than 20k for the second leg of the final against Rochdale at Budgie Hovel Road. Clearly not everyone realised it was to be the pinnacle for them, honours wise.

in 1962 League Cup was only in its 2nd year. Per WIKI out of 92 teams only 82 opted to take part. The biggest 10 teams didn't compete eg Liverpool, Man U, Arsenal, Spurs etc. The SF saw mighty Rochdale (4th Division) play Blackburn Rovers and Norwich play Blackpool. The Final was played over two legs Norwich on agg 4 v Rochdale 0....only 11,000 at Rochdale and 19,000 at Norwich...Hardly a difficult Cup to win in 1962!
