England Left Back options 19:47 - Jun 6 with 5485 views | ChrisAllen7 | Maybe it's just me, but looking at that squad, Leif Davis in my opinion is our country's best left back. Obviously no premiership appearances but would you take any of those players over Leif at Ipswich??

England Left Back options on 15:14 - Jun 7 by jayessess | You're getting a lot of flak for this, but he just broke the Championship assists record set by the guy who'll probably end up playing there (out-of-position). [Post edited 7 Jun 2024 16:14]

Absolutely. Surprised to see some of the responses on this thread. Leif will quickly prove himself to be one of the best LBs outside the top 6 next season. Suspect he will be in an England squad before this time next year. [Post edited 7 Jun 2024 15:17]

....his attacking ability, they are quite rightly questioning his defensive ability. We will find out next season what his qualities look like in the Premier League when he is coming up against international level attackers. At that stage we can judge whether he has the ability to step up one level, let alone two.

England Left Back options on 17:31 - Jun 7 with 419 views | ArnieM | As much as I love LD, it’s more his role as a marauding wing back where his strengths really lie. However, his defensive abilities aren’t as good as his attacking abilities in my humble opinion. And as I said many times on here (to much ridicule), our defence isn’t that good, and especially when the ball comes into our box. I’m expect McKenna to address this in the coming weeks.

England Left Back options on 17:56 - Jun 7 with 402 views | BloomBlue | Leif plays more of a wingback role at Town, at international level we play with the LB in more of a traditional defensive LB role. Cresswell found the same problem, viewed as great at marauding forward, not so great at defending, which limited his caps. Same with Alexander-Arnold, goal assists as high as anyone in the prem, but never given the same RB chance at international level, as his defending was viewed as suspect. But that was often caused by the fact their club managers wanted them high up the field which meant sonetimes they were still in an attacking position when the opposition had pinched the ball and gone on the counterattack.

England Left Back options on 21:02 - Jun 6 by StokieBlue | Davis is very solid in the tackle and wins most of them however he is asked to play as basically a left winger at times and thus he is sometimes out of position. I don't think you can use that to say his gets caught out, it's how he's told to play and being out of position sometimes is acceptable to KM. I think if he was told to play less attackingly or as a more standard LB he would be in the right position most of the time and would defend fine. Context is important. There isn't a LB in the world who could play as advanced as Davis does and still be in the correct defensive position every time. He has made some mistakes on headers but then other LB's also do that. SB |
His positioning, timing and strength of contest for defensive headers at the back post has notably improved too. I love the way he tackles - very compact and often traps the ball well to get up onto in a 50/50 where he goes to ground.

England Left Back options on 19:11 - Jun 7 with 375 views | gosblue | Leif is a £2m left back but a £20m wing back. Trippier is the exact opposite, his transition play is so slow although he can cross a ball. Shaw is far better all round. Trippier, Pickford and Maguire hold onto the ball for far too long. Maguire isn’t there and Pickford is rested so hopefully transition should be quicker. Hopefully we can get down the right with Walker. Maybe Foden can do some of Kane’s pressing because Kane couldn’t press his trousers.
