If 16 year olds are working and paying taxes - as plenty are, then they should have a vote.

They have a far greater stake in the future than the old too - they've already been totally ignored at the ballot box for years to service the needs of the old

as someone who left school at 16, went to work under the YTS scheme and then had to pay Poll Tax under Thatcher when I wasn't afforded a vote, I'm all for giving them a vote.

You are living in the real world when you are supporting yourself. When I was 16 I didn't fully understand all the support I was getting from family and after university a person is just entering the real world.

The perception of reality is dependent upon our senses and, as far as any of us can tell from our own privileged access to only our own mind, can be a difficult process. Reflection on past difficulties in later life can indeed produce a keener appreciation of what it is to be alive but the sharpness of the senses at, say, sixteen years of age can give a fuller picture of what is going on around us and the implications that has for our future.

Are you talking about immigration? There should be a full discussion based on facts rather than just saying that we need x number of people to come in. Most people don't realize the real cost of all services and don't understand who is actually a net contributor to taxes, it is a surprisingly low number.
Immigrants take years to integrate, there are a lot of problems and cost involved as well as positives.
You also have to consider the character of the people you invite into your country. A case in point, for German citizenship you now have to commit to supporting Jewish life in Germany.
We should always vote based on the realities of the world, not how we wish the world would be.
It's not just a case of immigration being good or bad. That entirely depends on the individuals.

Ironically we now have a problem without the freedom of movement that people can't just come and go when the labour market needs it, but they have to make a more permanent decision to relocate for work currently and therefore won't be as likely to leave.

The biggest problem in the country as there isn't an honest immigration conversation and there isn't an honest future of the workforce conversation until there is we will never get anywhere because I agree with your last paragraph

The educated won't save us as almost anyone can get a mediocre education - it's the intelligent who I want to be active in our politics. I'm almost as scared of a Reform or Labour win as a Tory victory - "c0ckwombles the lot of them. Tactical or protest voting is hardly the stuff of a thriving democracy, so I would encourage voting "Independent" or spoiling your ballot paper.

You are right that tactical voting is not the stuff of a thriving democracy, I'd say it is a damning indictment of a voting system that is not fit for purpose. No-one should ever have to vote against the person or party they like least rather than the person or party they approve of most.

So what is one not allowed to do then, if one isn't living in the real world by not supporting themselves?
