Electric vehicles to pay full congestion charge. 16:54 - Jul 3 with 3106 viewsPinewoodblue

But not until 24/12/2025. Has Starmer made any promise not to tax electric vehicles?

The fact you have an opinion that isn't necessarily true makes me feel justified. 30min from 20% to 80% charge in 30 minutes with 300 miles top range (260 cold weather)

Weight is a factor and does lead to more wear on the road and as a result tyres, but it's worth pointing out that the brakes of EVs produce less particulates than ICE vehicles. A large proportion of braking on EVs is regenerative l, which doesn't create particulates.

In terms of public health in cities, EVs are hands down far better than ICE vehicles. In terms of CO2 emissions, they are also better, but it does depend on things like manufacturing and power grid mix as to how much better they are.

They're also leading to a bit of a revival in the use of the drum brake rather than disks and pads. I'd bet that the drum brake creates less dust/particulates than than a brake pad does as it wears.

Anyone who thinks by buying an EV they will avoid paying Road Tax is kidding themselves. Ever since the car came into being Governments have found ways to tax them. Currently although the Government want us to go over to so called green energy which is supposed to be electricity rather than gas, surprise, surprise, electricity is more expensive and it's already been proved that power stations that supposedly use sustainable wood are using wood that's unsustainable. My belief is that road tolls will come in. Why have we a DVLA that costs millions to run when they could just put the tax on fuel. That way you wouldn't have thousands running around on our roads with no road tax and having to use the police AMPR system to chase drivers without road tax. Also releasing police to do other duties.

There is a degree of artificial noise with EVs for safety reasons, however, most of them have automatic collision protection anyway - and it is really flipping good too (on my car). Had a deer jump out infront of me near Dennington and the car breaking sharp with warning sound went off before I clocked the Deer.

Good re the added audibility (if sufficient), but unless the ACP can 'see' round corners & over blind brows, I don't see it as being much much use in the situations I outlined earlier.
