Leicester looking likely for that points deduction on 16:45 - Jul 4 with 3281 views | Trequartista | Factual information so surely even Mashiter wouldn't get that one wrong. They are now appealing the appeal - just take your medicine, Foxes.

Leicester looking likely for that points deduction on 18:46 - Jul 4 with 2551 views | ArnieM | With all the talk of points deductions and overspending, does anyone know how we would stand in this minefield as the PL new boys snd the amount of money we are now reportedly paying out? I realise its “peanuts” compared to some transfer fees being quoted, but for Toen this appears to be some heavy outlay to say nothing if the associated wages.

We can lose £61m over a rolling 3 seasons at the moment. Stay up a season and it increases to £83m.

Yes Arnie we're allowed to spend our revenue + roughly £35M this season, if the owners are willing. Maybe £5M more, maybe £5M less, but not dramatically different. Our revenue is likely to be in the range of £135M-£185M, mostly dependent on our finishing position in the league. You get more broadcasting money for each position higher you finish in the table, known as the 'merit payment' or similar. In signing Hutchinson for roughly £20M on a 5-year contract, we will spread the cost of the purchase across the length of his contract. So in 24/25 he has cost us roughly £4M in transfer fees. In 27/28, he would also cost us roughly £4M in transfer fees if still with us. Multiple transfers of this magnitude would cripple Championship clubs obviously, so it's important that we either A) stay in the PL for the foreseeable, or B) the player signed retains a healthy percentage of their value, and is then moved on in harder times. In 22/23, even the cheapest club finished with a total wage bill (players, staff, contributions, pensions) of £99M. That may have been an outlier season as Forest spent unsustainably, while Fulham and Bournemouth bounced back as former PL clubs, but it speaks to just how big the sums are for even the lesser clubs. Some quick simple maths: £30,000 per week x 25 player squad limit x 52 = roughly £36M. Clearly, even the stingiest PL club in 22/23 was paying its first team an average salary significantly above £30K per week. What a world! | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Leicester looking likely for that points deduction on 19:52 - Jul 4 with 2175 views | ArnieM | Wow, thank you for that breakdown. So in the books then the transfer fee for a player is treated like an asset depreciation over the life span of his contract. If he was given a contract extension does that further spread the original outlay? Many thanks for the explanation. Much appreciated 👍

No worries and yes, if a player signs a new contract with their club then the remaining sum owed may be spread across the new contract length. Amortisation (and re-amortisation) doesn't affect the real-life payment schedule obviously but it does help clubs meet their PSR/FFP calculations. It can also crush a club years down the line in the PSR/FFP stakes if they invest awfully lol.
