That's the problem. He'd have looked lost and then everyone would have jumped on his back. I'm sure he'd like to be there, but probably dodged a bullet from England fans. For proof just look to Walker. One of the best attacking full backs in the PL and has been anonymous so far. I was in the camp that thought he wasn't ready for a call up, but seeing how we've done down the left I've changed my mind and think he could have done a job. But then so could Gomez, who's done well at left back for Liverpool this season (although another right footer and not his normal position), and he's actually in the squad. Having said all that, Trippier kept us in a match in the group stages with two excellent last ditch tackles denying certain goals. I don't think people have given him enough credit for his defending, and ultimately that's the most important thing in the way Southgate sets them up. Davis is undoubtedly a weaker defender han Trippier. It would have been nice to have had the option of a modern, attacking left full back in the squad though. Shaw has been a waste of a place.

Leif Davis walks into this side on 20:02 - Jul 10 with 652 views | ArnoldMoorhen | I hope, and expect, that he will start the season well and will be part of the October friendlies. But he has never played against World Class players, and it would be a hell of a gamble to take him to the Euros on the back of a Championship season. And remember how Wes did in his first couple of Internationals... It's quite a step up. I love Leif. I think he will become an England player, but it would not have been a percentage play to take him to the Euros this Summer.
