I can't imagine we'll play two left sided centre backs together.
I favour the slightly tweaked, more cautious version with Johnson playing a bit deeper than Burns would (as with the last friendly, I believe) for this first tough game.

I think Taylor has just about shown enough to get the nod over Luongo because of his 'engine' against Liverpool.
Likewise, I'd want Harness' physicality in there, even if we're a bit stifled in creativity terms. Harness drops into the middle to make a solid 5-3-2 when we're out of possession.
Slightly concerned about pace v. Woolfy, but having that extra player who's super comfortable on the ball in there will help us breaking their lines. [Post edited 13 Aug 2024 8:09]

It's the age old problem of representing a fluid 'system' on a static screen. Tuanzebe in that is hybrid CB/RB and Johnson is hybrid RB/RWB. Of course Davis is halfway up the pitch too, so although it looks like three CBs, both Tuanzebe and to a lesser extent Greaves are doing a bit more wide work, and Woolfy is the only one playing as a true CB.
Under the cosh, though, it looks like an old school 5-3-2, but hopefully under-the-cosh transitions quickly into the more normal ITFC attacking format. | |

I think it suits us.
3 centre backs that can cover the width of our penalty area, two wing backs, two holding mids, two narrow 10s to congest and frustrate out of possession and a focal point #9.
The onus is still on Davis and Johnson to provide the width when we go forward.
I think that'll be the plan against the 'Big 6' at the very least. | | | |
