Any other “former” youth academy sponsors on here?

Having done that for about 15 years, from back when town needed all the friends they could find I was a little surprised and somewhat saddened to find out that my money is no longer needed for the academy

Anyone else had the same and how do you feel?

I replied to the town about remembering your friends on the way up …….

You mean they actually asked you to stop giving money to them? I'm sure they have a different model of funding now, but I struggle to believe they wouldn't want individuals to contribute if they want to. is there a share or two you can buy?

Yes.

As well as pumping money in twice for both shareholdings I also sponsored an academy player for many years, including Flynn Downes for a couple of seasons.

I guess it’s called the price of success, ie the people who were important when the club was in the mire are no longer important.

I’ve seen this with other friends too in different ways.

It’s really sad. While I’m still blue and white to the core my feelings towards the club has been tarnished, that letter to the shareholders about the non-dividend sealed it. Not because of money, it was never in my thoughts to make money, I was helping my club. That letter showed no respect for what myself and a few others did.

It doesn’t feel like my club any more, but the manager and players have my full support because it’s not their fault.

Don't really understand why they don't want any funds, I get they have plenty of their own now, but surely any little helps?

Been one or two signs that the Ipswich way is not their way

Contacted the club about the dividend situation like you it still irks.
Passed on to one of the long term directors who contacted me.
Had a lovely chat about all things Ipswich but bottom line dividend "scam" was at the insistence of the new investors, don't like them already.
But eveything is now geared to the masses, the fans who helped out when the going was tough have been forgotten.

Still we are Premier League and all that means

Sorry to be out of the know but for those of us not aware, what is this dividend 'scam'?

The removal without consultation or vote of any possibility of a dividend advised by badly worded communication, perhaps not a scam as such but it sure feels like it.

Long-held shares from a time the club was in crisis, which were very unlikely to ever receive a dividend, have been formally downgraded to the back of the queue for receiving a dividend, should we happen to make a profit and decide to issue one. People are annoyed that a thing they were unlikely ever to receive has been taken away.

But it's really more the public slap in the face to those who came to the club's rescue when it desperately needed them. And not a particularly necessary one, given the sums involved (altho it would all potentially erode the return on their investment).

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

No people are annoyed about the way it was done.

No one expected any return when we donated, but the fact remains these shares did qualify for a dividend, it was removed in a way that pixxed a lot of people of.

Why are they not wanting that now?

Are they just wanting the friends of the foundation stuff more I wonder??

Franchise FC it is then!

It's a little sad that comms from the club are appearing to share a consistently sub par form. Not great is it. Elephant will have a field day if/when he comes onto this thread as it feels that whilst we are all pumped by the team the appreciation of long term donors and contributors seems to be diminishing. Sad, but in a way inevitable I guess.

That was pretty much what my second paragraph was about. It's not the practical denial, so much as how it was done* and the fact they decided to do something relatively petty like that.

* Tho trying to keep it secret wouldn't have worked either.

Difficult to find fault with much of what they’ve done but the communication has been terrible across the board. People that have supported, sponsored the club in some very difficult times just needed a clear message from the outset. Predictable but disappointing nonetheless. Same thing happened last time we went up incidentally.

From a business standpoint I can see why they wouldn't want it if no longer needed.

It's just a faff to administer and from a materiality perspective probably requires more effort than it was deemed worth for what probably represents a rounding error in the books at this point.

The gripe about the shareholding is probably more understandable but I'd imagine that it was someone on the finance side formalising what they saw as always the arrangement and tidying up the financial statements without really considering the optics.

I used to donate to the blues foundation monthly lottery, had an email and £29 refund saying it was being run differently, but no link or nothing to re-invest.

Basically they have something who I think will be a 'named' academy sponsor

I have donated to the Foundation and the Women's team but the Academy just felt a bit different.
